Throwing the police station into chaos gave Luke Sullivan immense satisfaction, but the confusion in his mind didn't stop.
He wasn't sure how he had crossed over into such a normal world. Not only that, what happened to the former Luke whose body he had taken? In this situation, was it possession or reincarnation?
The new memories told him that the Luke Sullivan of this world had the same birthday as him, was born in a small town, had elderly parents, and came from humble beginnings.
They had the same starting point, but as they grew up, they walked two completely different paths in life.
One chose to fight and die in the streets, becoming a g**g enforcer; the other excelled in school and graduated from New York University, becoming a respected member of society, and then a police officer.
The irony wasn't lost on him. Before, he was always running from the cops, but now his role had completely reversed. Now he was a cop himself.
"Don't tell me. I'll have to chase down other gangsters with a badge now?" Thinking ahead, he couldn't help but contemplate his future. Now that he had crossed over, what was he supposed to do? Should he quit the force and go back to his old life? Or keep the job, and have a steady paycheck?
After thinking it through, he came to a brilliant decision, "To hell with it all, first things first, let's celebrate this successful crossover by living it up!"
Before his execution, he had spent two whole years in prison. It had been forever since he had lived freely. He wasn't particularly hungry, but there were other desires he needed to satisfy.
So, he hailed a cab, planning to paint the town red. Take care of his urges first; other problems could wait.
The car engine hummed to life, he spotted a pack of cigarettes next to the driver, and took one without asking, placing it between his lips.
The driver was pretty cool about it, even offering his lighter.
He flicked the lighter and lit up. But after just one drag, he started coughing violently like he was choking.
It felt like his lungs were trying to escape, the sensation was incredibly unpleasant.
"Damn!" he cursed to himself. Could it be that the Luke Sullivan of this world had never even smoked before?
Just as he finished that thought, he felt a strange sensation in his mind, followed by a clear, androgynous voice speaking suddenly, "Crime System successfully engaged, randomizing."
"What the hell was that?" He turned to the cab driver, but his blank expression told him he hadn't heard anything.
He suddenly realized only he could hear the voice.
"Enhance your new destiny. You are blessed. Good fortune will come. Take it easy."
The words came quickly and stopped within seconds, returning to silence.
He sat there stunned, unable to remember a single word clearly. "What the hell was that?"
Why were there voices in his head?
'Am I losing it? Wait!' Suddenly, he remembered the first few words, "Crime System!"
"Crime System?! Oh!" He finally remembered where he'd seen this before - in all those reincarnation stories he'd read, there was always some magical system that appeared. With this system, advancement and solving crimes would be a piece of cake!
'Holy... Yes!' He had obtained the Crime Detection System? "But... this Crime Detection System... what exactly does it do?"
