12. Everyone has secrets

Gabriel

I said to everyone that my injury wasn’t so bad but in fact it was. I could lie to everyone but not to Duromor. He knew that it wasn’t just light injury and he said:

“You have to shift immediately if you want stay on your feet. You know that you can’t heal so fast when you are in human form plus if you want to heal faster we have to find our mate. Thanks to the mate bond the healing process will be twice so effective.”

“I know, but I have more important things to do now. I need to find El. You know that she is with our mate so if I find El, I will find our mate too.” I said to him secretly hoping that he let the idea to find Clotho.

As soon as I mentioned that we could find our mate when we find El, Duromor said nothing more. He was too excited to see Clotho again.

Azrael and Amythiel decided to go with me. We were almost by the dean’s office when I saw El sitting on the window silly looking through the window and silently waiting. She was totally lost in her thoughts.

The image was breathtaking and we all stayed for a while just looking at her.

I knew that she wasn’t my mate but still she looked stunning. Her mate will be lucky one and I hoped that he will cherish her. If not I will kill him. I loved her as my dearest friend and I wished her happiness.

When I eventually moved she noticed it immediately. She looked at us and smiled so sadly that my heart ached and I knew that something happened, but she didn't mention anything. I had to find out what exactly happened to her in the summer.

When we came closer to her she was already standing and pretending that everything was fine as always.

“What happened to you Gabe? Are you all right?” she asked worriedly when she saw blood on my reaped shirt.

I wanted to tell her that I was fine but Azrael said before I could have opened my mouth:

“It was Blackwood who did it to him. He obviously hate Gabriel too much!”

“And where were you with your sister? Why didn’t you stop him?” asked El angrily.

“It’s enough! I am fine and that’s important!” I said trying to save the situation because they started to argue with each other. I knew that it wasn’t Azrael's or Amythiel's fault. They didn’t know that something like that happened and El was just too overprotective.

“Where is our new attraction? I mean our new human schoolmate?” I said looking at El trying to change the topic.

“Gabe don’t be such a jerk!” said El bleakly and then she continued seriously:

“Honestly, she is funny, cute and I kind like her so I hope all of you will behave nice in front of her. I am trying to convince her to be our friend.”

“What? She is only a human and we don't need any human friends! So why would you do that?” asked horrified Amythiel.

“I know that she is human! I can feel her heartbeat and yes my demon wants to kill her so desperately that I almost got crazy. It’s really hard to explain but I feel that she is somehow special. When I saw her I had the feeling that I have to protect her at all costs. Maybe it sounds crazy but I believe that she is meant to be my friend.” said soulfully El to us.

When Duromor heard the part that El's demon wants kill our mate he almost took control over me ready to attack.

It took me almost all my last power to calm him down so I felt extremely exhausted. Knowing that I couldn’t waste more time I said:

“I understand El, but we need to find out more information about Clotho. You saw it by yourself how strange was Blackwood around her. It was almost terrifying to see him like that. I never heard or saw Blackwood to show to someone mercy but today we saw this human girl disrespectfully speaking with him and what he did? He sent her strangely to dean's office with a light punishment. So you have to admit it yourself that this was really weird.”

“Yes you are right Gabe, but...” tried El to say but I suddenly interrupted her:

“And I already asked Blake if she knows something about her and guess what!? Blake told me that she couldn’t find anything about her. Your new human friend is like a ghost! Blake told me that there is only one option to find more about her!”

“What option?” asked El curiously.

“We must ask your prisoner. Only then we may find the truth about Clotho!” I said to her but as soon as I mentioned this prisoner I saw that El became immediately pale.

“How does she know? You know what? I don’t want to know how she knew that! Anyway I can’t help you!” said El strictly.

“At least tell us why you will not help us!” asked Amythiel.

“You have no idea who this person is and I will not do the same mistake again!” said El with shaking head. I never saw El so scared.

I wanted to ask her why was she scared and who exactly was the prisoner but then Duromor sensed that our mate was coming.

El noticed her too and she looked worriedly behind me at our mate. El's mood changed. She was happy to see Clotho and she waved with her hand to show Clotho that she should come closer.

I knew that it was time to run away, because Duromor wanted to take control to stay with her. He wanted to show everyone that she was our mate. I almost lost control because I was too weak. I lost so much blood and I was exhausted so I knew that it was matter of time when Duromor would take control over me. So I said:

“I totally forgot that I have an appointment with Miss Downhill. I will see you later, guys!” and I ran away.

I heard that Eli was shouting at me:”Gabriel! Wait a second!”

I knew that she would be angry but I could handle it later. Now I needed time to heal.
