It Will Always Get Worse
The next day Crystal woke up to her bladder and ankle fighting for her attention. Because her injury had hurt so bad last night, she had opted out of using the restroom before sleeping. A decision that was proving to have been a poor one. Her ankle however was roasting hot and screaming up her leg. Looking down her body Crystal narrowed her eyes. Laying across her feet was non other than B.B. She thought animals were supposed to be able to sense when something was wrong with their people? Clearly her cat was broken or, and probably more likely, he didn’t give a damn. Stretching behind her to the recliner next to the couch Crystal swatted at Anna trying to wake her up. When that didn’t seem to work, she did the only thing she could think of. Crystal shrieked at the top of her lungs startling both B.B. and Anna awake. Anna flew out of the recliner so fast that she failed to put the footrest down and toppled over it in her haste. B.B. poofed up at her and growled looking like he would love to put her out of her misery at the moment and not in the helpful way either. Crystal watched him cautiously too afraid to look away. As his hair went down, he glared at her before digging his claws into her lower legs and using her as a springboard to launch himself off the couch. Crystal screamed again but this time in pure pain. Anna fumbled around on the floor untangling herself from the blanket trying to get to her friend to make sure she was alright. Hot tears slid down Crystal’s cheeks as her ankle felt like nothing but one big throbbing mass.
“Holy crap, are you alright? I thought he was going to murder you for sure.”
“I think I would have preferred that.” Crystal complained momentarily forgetting about her bladder in leu of B.B. being a large insensitive creep. It wasn’t until she tried to sit up and the new position put pressure on her bladder that she felt it. She tried to slide herself onto the floor making Anna hold her partially up onto the couch.
“What are you doing?”
“I have to pee.” Anna looked at her in confusion not seeing what one had to do with the other.
“I don’t think I can bear to put any kind of pressure on it right now and there’s no way you can carry me.”
“So, you’re going to get there how?”
“I’m going to crawl. Now if you’ll be so kind as to let me go before, I pee all over the both of us.” Anna skittered backwards as fast as possible at Crystal’s words. Crystal was not ready for the sudden loss of support and found herself falling off the couch butt first. Now not only did her bladder feel like it was about to explode, and her ankle didn’t feel like an ankle anymore, but she was fairly certain she had bruised her tail bone as well.
“This can’t get much worse.” She muttered to herself as she righted her position. She ended up having to scoot along on her behind while holding her injured leg up in the air. She moved along slowly heading to the downstairs bathroom as Anna watched on in curiosity. Crystal had to stop to put her leg down and give it a break as gravity took its toll on the injured appendage. She lay with her back flat on the floor to stretch out the kinks before she moved again. She needed to get to the toilet soon or she would be spending the day scrubbing her carpet. Just as she was about to sit up and scoot again B.B. came up and plopped his big butt on her head. All of Crystal’s attention was centered on wedging her hands under the hairy beast on top of her and somehow hoist him up. She wondered why Anna hadn’t come over and helped her yet as she pushed at the mushy fat of her cat uncovering her lower face.
“B.B. you ass, get off.” She yelled at him just as the weight of him was removed and she felt herself being lifted off the ground. As her body came up to rest against a solid chest she looked up into the face of a slightly annoyed Casey. Her eyes widened in horror as memories of last night filtered through her brain. Anna’s laughter drew her attention to the left, but she was having trouble seeing her friend. Casey rolled his eyes as he swiftly turned enough to see what Anna was doing. The motion caused cool air to brush the skin of her rump bringing about the realization that her scooting backwards had pulled her pants down exposing the top half of her bum. She looked from Anna who was laughing hysterically while holding a less then thrilled B.B. back up to a still annoyed Casey. That was when she saw that his button up shirt was wide open as if he had been in too big of a rush to dress properly this morning.
“If you needed help, you could have called.” He bit out irritably at her causing her to shrink into his chest trying to hide. She wasn’t sure if he was talking about last night or this morning. Maybe he was talking about both. “Where were you going to?”
“Bathroom.” He nodded once and began to carry her in the direction of the downstairs bathroom. Her whole face heated up like a tomato as she felt her bare tush brush against the skin of his washboard abs.
“Do I even want to know how you ended up like this?” He asked still not looking at her.
“You mean Lewis hasn’t filled you in yet?” Casey paused for a moment as he briefly glanced down at her before looking back up. A slight pink stained his cheeks as he cleared his throat uncomfortably.
“I was a little busy at the time.” He admitted making Crystal roll her eyes at him and look away. Of course, he was. She had seen his date last night after all. If he hadn’t been tempted by what the woman had had on display for him Crystal would have wondered about him. Before either could say anymore Crystal’s cell rang out. It was her mom’s ringtone and she knew if she just ignored it, her mom would hang up and call right back until she answered the damn thing.
“Can you hand me my phone please?” She asked Anna while Casey raised an eyebrow at her.
“You’re going to answer that now?”
“I don’t want to talk to her while I’m peeing. That’s rude.” She argued back accepting her phone when Anna reached them.
“Hey mom this isn’t a good time. Can I call you back in like five minutes?”
“Crystal have you seen your grandfather?”
“No, should I have?”
“Ugh! He got into an argument with your dad and he stormed out with a bag saying he was going to go see you.” Anna’s heart rate sped up as she listened to her mom.
“When did he leave?” She asked worry coloring her voice.
“About three hours ago.” It was only an hour-long drive from her parent’s farm to her place in the city. He should have made it at least two hours ago. She was about to ask if her mom had sent out someone to look for him or called the county sheriff when her grandfather burst through her front door. Anna and Casey turned to look at the front door which meant when Casey turned Crystal was turned to the door as well.
“He just came in mom. You don’t have to worry he made it.”
“Oh, thank goodness. Would it be alright if he stays with you for a day or two until I can calm your father down?”
“Sure, why not.” Crystal sighed dejectedly not wanting to fight with her mom about it.
“Thank you sweetheart. If he causes any trouble call and I’ll come pick him right up.”
“Okay.”
“Love you. Gotta go.”
“Love you to...” Crystal’s words trailed off into dead air as her mother had hung up on her before she could finish.
“Did you know your bare ass is hanging out?” Her grandfather asked the room shining light on what Crystal had been trying to avoid drawing any attention too.
“Good grief, just shoot me now.”
