Morning Dance
Crystal was woken up the next morning by a big fuzzy blob landing on her face. Groaning she opened her eyes only to be met with B.B.’s rear end as he sat on her head to wake her up. Reaching up she pushed him off looking over at the alarm clock in the process. It was four in the morning and Crystal refused to get up that early in the morning. Rolling over onto her side she pulled the blankets up to her ears trying to snuggle back down for a little more sleep. She had just started to drift off when B.B. jumped back onto the bed planting his hairy rear end back on her head. Growling in frustration she pushed him off once again and threw her covers back. There was no way he was going to let her go back to sleep. Stomping into the bathroom Crystal sat down to take care of business before she went downstairs to check the cat bowls. More than likely B.B. wanted fed.
She was so tired from staying up too late talking with Casey and Anna that she hadn’t gotten enough sleep. She could barely keep her eyes open as she sat there. Her eyelids were drooping, and her head kept jerking down as she fought to stay awake. She had started to drop off again while she sat there until B.B. startled her when he jumped onto her lap. If she hadn’t been on the toilet already Crystal may have had a problem. Glaring at the cat he turned circles on her lap while rubbing his head against her purring. She petted him giggling as he ate up the attention he was getting. Shoving him off so that she could wipe Crystal had to block her lap from getting sat on again as she did so.
Bathroom duty done she headed downstairs turning on the lights as she went. B.B. had a bad habit of walking in front of her stopping to glance back at her to see if she was following. More then once she had tripped over him when she didn’t notice he was sitting right in her path waiting for her to catch up. Since then she had gotten smart and always made sure there was plenty of light to see him by. The last thing she needed was to take a tumble down her staircase. Entering the kitchen, she went over to his bowls and stood there scowling down at them before growling in frustration. Both the food and water bowls were nearly as full as they had been last night when she filled them right before turning in. She watched as B.B. made his way over plopping down to begin his breakfast.
“You did not wake me up before the butt crack of dawn just to have someone down here while you ate.” She growled at him watching him scarf while whipping his fluffy tail back and forth. Annoyed she stormed over to the coffee maker to make the strongest pot she could stomach. There was no way she was going to be able to go back to sleep now. She waited until B.B. had wandered away from his bowls before going upstairs for a shower. She didn’t want to have him getting into the bathroom with her to howl at her from the other side of the shower curtain because he wanted her to do something for him. At least he drew the line at the outside of the curtain instead of trying to follower into the shower. He had done that one time and then hissed at her for the rest of the day as if it had been her fault that he couldn’t keep his butt out.
Dressed and ready for the day she walked back downstairs to retrieve her coffee. It was now five-thirty in the morning. Still too early for work but perhaps she could bump into Dr. Miller on her way in. She made sure to turn the TV on for B.B. so he wouldn’t feel so alone during the day. She flipped the channel to animal planet and left him stretched out on the couch staring at the program. She walked outside breathing in the crisp fresh air of the morning enjoying the slight chill in the air. It was still warm enough to walk to work but fall was just around the corner. It wouldn’t be too long before a light jacket wouldn’t cut it anymore. Anna was just coming out of her house as well surprised to see Crystal out so early in the morning. A knowing smirk formed on her lips.
“I take it B.B. did an early morning wake up call.” The statement caused Crystal to glare as she growled out a barely understandable yes. Anna laughed at her friend loving the mornings she got to pick on her. Crystal was not a morning person and the days that B.B. woke her up extra early made her even surlier. Coming up beside her Anna set her pace to a leisurely stroll as the two of them walked together to the gym. A few minutes into the walk and it was clear to Anna that Crystal was going to try and intercept Dr. Miller. Truthfully, Anna didn’t think there was anything wrong with Crystal but none of them could convince her otherwise. Instead of saying anything to her, Anna just walked along with her chatting idly about work. It wasn’t long before they turned down the street that Dr. Miller lived on. Crystal growled in annoyance and Anna smiled a little when they found his car gone already. He must have had either an early appointment or a meeting scheduled before hours. As they continued on their way passing his house Ike drove by on his motorcycle.
“Where do you think he’s going this early in the morning?” Crystal asked watching their most mysterious neighbor in the complex drive by. They had been trying to guess what he does for a living since the day he moved in, but nobody knew a thing. Anytime one of them had approached him to engage him in conversation they failed only receiving odd looks and one-word answers. The man was an enigma and he utterly intrigued the two of them. It had become a game between the two of them.
It wasn’t long before the gym came into view. Crystal watched as Anna began bouncing in anticipation of entering the building. It could only mean one thing; a certain swim coach was on duty today and since they had to walk by the pool to get to the change room it was bound to make Anna’s day. Crystal shook her head as her friend picked up the pace hustling to get inside. Crystal chuckled as she kicked it into gear to keep up. Sure enough as they were passing the windows to the pool Anna let out a dreamy sigh. Crystal glanced over just as Jude came up out of the pool. Anna leaned on the sill of the large window watching him as he strutted over to a towel to dry off. He looked over, maybe sensing Anna’s intense stare on him, smiling he waved at the two of them before wandering off. Crystal reached over grabbing Anna’s arm and dragging her off.
“Stop being a creeper like B.B.” She teased making Anna gasp in annoyance.
“I am nothing like B.B. Pet’s resemble their owners which would be you. If anyone is like that demented cat of yours it would be you.”
“So, you agree there something mentally wrong with me?”
“Ugh!” Anna screeched before storming off. Crystal hot on her heels trying to argue her case all the way into the change rooms.
