Chapter 3

Aria's Pov The first thing I heard when I woke up was a steamy beep sound. I tried to open my eyes, but they felt so heavy. When I finally managed to crack them open, everything was too bright and blurry. Where was I? I blinked a few times, and slowly things came into focus. I was in a really nice bed with soft white sheets. The walls were painted a light blue color, and there were flowers on the table next to me. I tried to sit up, but pain shot through my ribs and I gasped. "Oh! You're awake!" A woman's voice said. I turned my head and saw a young woman in scrubs standing by the door. She had kind eyes and a warm smile. "Where... where am I?" My voice came out raspy and weak. "You're in the medical center at Crystal Lake Pack," she said, walking over to check the IV in my arm. "Some of our patrol wolves found you unconscious in the forest. You were attacked by rogues." Crystal Lake Pack….No way! The Pack of the Festival? No, this couldn't be happening. "I need to leave," I said, trying to pull the IV out. "Whoa, whoa! You can't leave yet!" The woman gently stopped me. "You have a concussion and broken ribs. And you're pregnant so you need to rest or you could lose the baby." Pregnant? She knew I was pregnant. "Please," I begged, tears filling my eyes. "Please don't tell anyone. Please just let me go." She looked confused. "Honey, we already contacted your pack… We saw the Dark Moon mark on your wrist. Alpha Ryker is here for the festival so he'll be so relieved to know you're safe." My heart stopped beating that I almost collapsed. "Ryker is here?" "Yes, the Blood Moon Festival started an hour ago. Dr. Malik went to find him and let him know—" I was dying but I nodded at the lady, I shouldn't let her panic and stay when she's just doing her hob. “I understand ma'am thank you very much.” I forced a smile and she nodded. “Just rest a bit and you'll be fine.” She told me and lingered around, checking my blood Pressure and vitals. “I'll check on my colleague, just wait for me okay?” I nodded at her again and tried so hard not to cry and burst out of the room. The moment she left the room, I removed the drip and made it three steps before my legs gave out. I grabbed the doorframe to steady myself despite my head spinning. I couldn't sit down, I had to get out of here before Ryker found me. I forced myself to keep walking, using the wall for support. My vision was blurry and everything hurt, but I had to try. I made it out of the room and into a hallway. The sounds of music and laughter drifted in from outside. Maybe I could hide in the crowd and I could slip away before anyone noticed. "You there!" A sharp voice made me jump and I turned to see an older woman in a fancy dress marching toward me. She looked annoyed and angry like Rita. "Why are you just standing there?" she snapped. "We need more servers! Take this to Alpha Cain at table twelve….Now!" Before I could explain that I wasn't a server, she shoved a heavy tray into my hands. It was loaded with food—roasted chicken, vegetables, bread, and a glass of wine that made me salivate. "But I—" "No buts! Move!" She pointed toward a door that led outside. "Table twelve! Go!" She hurried away before I could say anything else. I stood there holding the tray, my arms were shaking. Maybe this was good. If I was dressed like a server and carrying food, maybe no one would recognize me. I could deliver this food and then find a way to escape. I took a deep breath and pushed through the door. I kept my head down and searched for table twelve. I just needed to drop off this food and get out of here. At Table twelve, A man sat alone, looking bored as he scrolled through his phone. He was clearly an Alpha and I could tell by the way he carried himself. I walked over as quickly as I could without spilling anything. "Here's your food, Alpha," I said quietly, setting the tray down on the table. "Thank you," he said without looking up from his phone until I turned to leave. "Wait. You're from Dark Moon Pack?" I froze….How did he know? I looked down and saw that my sleeve had ridden up, exposing the Dark Moon tattoo on my wrist. Damn it! "Y-yes, Alpha," I stammered, quickly pulling my sleeve down. He finally looked up from his phone, studying me with curious green eyes. "Does Alpha Ryker know you're here? He's usually very protective of his pack members. I'm surprised he'd let you work at another pack's festival." My hands started shaking. "I really need to go—" I turned around slowly, and there he was. Alpha Ryker was about ten feet away, his Beta was right behind him and I went weak and collapsed.
