She smirked. "Is that money?"
Kai's expression shifted. He couldn't help but smile gently. He reached his hand to gently tap her nose. "You."
Ningning was slightly stunned with his actions, but she brushed it off. It wasn't like she didn't like money.
Kai continued, "That's not money."
She reached for the envelope. Inside, it was actually a red packet. Seeing the red packet, her face lit up. She glanced at Kai with a broad smile.
Seeing the smile on her lips, Kai chuckled as he shook his head. Ningning was celebrating the red packet, when she spotted a USB drive in the envelope as well, her smile faded as it turned to curiosity. She reached for it, glanced at it briefly, then gazed at Kai with a questioning look.
Kai smiled. "I literally texted you and told you to bring a laptop."
Ningning glared at him. "Bring a laptop? How am I supposed to carry that around?"
Kai looked her up and down. "Why not?"
Ningning glared at him. "Do I look like some FBI or some spy?"
Kai nodded. "Hm. Okay, you can try listening to it when you get home."
She glared at it; she really wanted to know what was in the content. She looked around, then gazed at Kai.
"There's no place we could get a laptop?"
Kai glanced at her. "Why the rush? You can easily just listen to it when you get home."
Seeing Kai's playful face change, Ningning's curiosity piqued. He sat up, rested his hands on the table, and used his right hand to wave for her to shift closer. She leaned in, her ear inches from his lips.
"Are you ready for this gift? If you take such an expensive gift, what would you give me in return?" he whispered.
Ningning pulled back, a hint of blush on her face. "You do know how not to give things freely, Kai."
Kai's expression turned serious. "Nothing is free, princess." He smiled.
Ningning's eyebrows twitched slightly.
Kai continued, "You want a spoiler and don't even want to unbox your gift at home."
Ningning's eyes widened in anticipation. "I can't wait"
Kai continued, "It's really such an expensive gift, and you are going to owe me one for it."
Ningning's mind was racing. This seemed like it would contain something important. Kai glanced at his phone.
"I have something to do, but quickly let me give you a spoiler. You watch the rest when you get home."
He tapped on his screen, then placed the phone on the table, gently pushing it to the other side.
Ningning's eyes were glued to the phone. Kai quickly cut in "Ah, before you listen to it, these are needed."
He reached for his pocket, pulled out an earpod, and quickly passed it to her. She connected it and plugged it in her ears.
She played the screen, her face normal at first, then her eyes twisted uncontrollably. She stared at the screen, her eyes widened in shock.
Kai smiled and abruptly reached for his phone, snatching it back. Ningning's head snapped up, stunned. She was too shocked to speak, unsure if it was the video or how Kai snatched his phone back.
Kai glanced at her with a beautiful smile. "I told you it's just a spoiler. Watch the rest at home"
He gently slipped his phone into his pocket. Ningning sat frozen in place, wondering what she had just seen.
After a moment of silence, Ningning's blank face suddenly broke into a broad smile. She chuckled loudly, and everyone in the lounge was drawn in by her laughter. If it had been anyone else, people would have given disapproving looks, but somehow, Ningning's laugh was mesmerizing. People felt so warm and happy hearing it, and they turned their attention back to what they were doing.
Seeing her hearty laugh, Kai's expression changed. He felt like she had just laughed maniacally. After Ningning finished laughing, she smiled widely at Kai. "I like you now."
Kai's hands trembled as his gaze faltered for a moment. He looked at her before asking, "You like me?"
Ningning looked directly into his eyes. "Of course. It's so hard for me to like someone, and if I like you… damn, you really did something good."
Kai's eyes curled into a smile. "Really? That's nice."
Ningning looked him in the eye. "I like people who are manipulative and cunning… like you."
Kai shivered slightly, his expression unreadable. Ningning didn't care how he felt. She threw in a contented wiggle. "I really do."
Ningning's sudden shift in attitude left Kai confused, but it quickly turned to curiosity. Ningning kept smiling. "All bills on me," she said, patting her chest.
Kai raised his eyebrows. "Just a cola and water?"
Ningning shot him a glare. “You should be happy I'm paying the bills.”
Kai rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, yeah."
As Ningning happily picked up the red packet, she stared at the USB drive. Just looking at it made her even happier. She found herself holding the red packet, smiling from ear to ear, unaware that someone's sharp gaze was already fixed on her.
