The morning sun barely warmed the city. Ningning stared at the wardrobe; all the dresses weren't her style. Seriously, did this girl really lack good fashion sense? Ningning knew she had to be a total knockout.
Her phone buzzed on the bed. She glanced at it..an unfamiliar name. Sora, wasn't that her childhood friend? Why now? Her thumb hovered over the screen; she wanted to ignore it. But curiosity took over. She swiped the screen.
"Wanna grab some coffee?" Sora’s voice rang out.
"Okay," Ningning said flatly.
At the café, Sora waved almost instantly. Her bright energy contrasted sharply with Ningning's dark demeanor.
"Ningning, you look different."
Ningning's lips pressed into a thin line. "I'm fine." She took her seat.
Sora leaned back, pretending to sip her coffee, her eyes never leaving Ningning.
"Hmm, fine... that's new. You usually don't glare at me like this."
Ningning didn't reply, sipping her drink slowly. Sora smirked, leaning forward slightly.
"Damn, Ningning. You've grown a lot prettier since the last time I saw you."
Ningning looked up briefly, her straight face finally blushing a bit.
Sora continued, her face turning gloomy, "By the way, your stepsister's been making Akie run herself ragged, midnight errands, threats, yelling, and even physical assault."
Ningning's fingers tightened around her cup.
"Akie?" she asked.
"Yeah," Sora said, picking up her drink.
She put it down casually, adding, "And General Kaze is at your father's company today. I think your stepmother and sister are up to something."
Ningning's jaw tightened, after some deep thought,She pulled out her phone searching for a number, when she finally found it, she quickly dialed the number.
The line connected.
"Ningning, is everything okay?" the voice asked.
Ningning got straight to the point. "General Kaze... he's at my father's company, right?"
There was a pause on the other end. "Yes, and you were supposed to be included in the meeting. They just finished, too."
Ningning's eyes narrowed; her jaw became cold.
Returning home, the mansion was silent..no voices, no signs of her stepmother or stepsister. Ningning paused in the hallway, deciding to take a good look around. Honestly, this n*********d felt so real. She had always thought she would wake up back in the real world, but now it seemed that was unlikely anytime soon.
It meant one thing, she was probably in a vegetative state in the actual world. She wasn't content to become a vegetable as well in this world, though. As she looked around the mansion, memories from the novel flooded her mind. She sensed that her mother and daughter were testing her... and she was determined to make them pay.
Leaning against the staircase, she paused, her eyes darting around. She remembered reading some of Olivia's dark secrets..the sinister things her stepmother had done, even plotting against her own husband.
Feeling a twinge of sympathy for the old man, Ningning thought, Luckily, he’s in good care. .
Just as she was about to head upstairs, a maid called out to her. Ningning glanced back, noting who was standing at the staircase. The maid hesitated, then apologized.
"Oh, sorry, Miss Ningning. I thought you were Miss Narin."
Ningning paid her no mind, turning to leave. But her gaze drifted back to the maid, catching sight of an envelope in her hand.
"Do you need something?" Ningning prompted.
The maid hesitated. "No, I’m just waiting for Miss Narin."
Ningning’s eyes fixed on the envelope,it felt strange. "Since she’s not here, you can give it to me. I’ll pass it to her when she returns."
The maid paused, deep in thought, then nodded and hurried over to hand Ningning the envelope. Ningning snatched it effortlessly.
"No need to do anything else. I’ll give it to her myself," Ningning said. She looked at the envelope. "Who sent this?"
"General Kaze. He sent his assistant to drop it off because he forgot during their meeting. I was told to give it to Miss Narin," the maid explained.
Ningning nodded, her eyes turning icy. "I see. You just relax. I’ll make sure she gets it."
The maid nodded without suspicion. "Thank you, Miss Ningning."
As Ningning walked toward her room, her eyes sparkled with curiosity. She noticed the maid clutching a folder in her hand before she left.
Following quietly behind, Ningning saw the maid take the folder into Olivia’s room..the way she held it, the way the papers were folded... her mind screamed, 'Perfect.” A malicious thought crossed her mind.
Five minutes later, Ningning peeked from her door to see if anyone was around before slipping into Olivia's room as quietly as possible.
She scanned the space, searching everywhere. Then her eyes found the folder on the corner of the desk. She remembered it instantly. Carefully, she pulled it out, brushing her fingers over it and slightly opening it. Inside were details about the company..who knew what Olivia was plotting now that her father was absent for the moment.
Ningning's lips curved into a small, sharp smile. She slipped the folder into her bag and quietly headed to her room, still clutching the envelope in her hand. After shutting and locking the door, she tore open the envelope.
Sitting on her bed, she decided to read the letter now and check the folder later. As she read, her eyes widened in shock.
A letter from the Ford Family? wasn't that the wealthiest family in the city and almost in the country? Ningning couldn’t help but laugh. Did Narin really think she could marry into that family just like that?
As she continued reading, her gaze grew icy. General Kaze had helped Narin reach out to them. Even her father knew… Damn.
There was a smaller letter attached. Ningning tore it off, opened it, and read. The matriarch of the Ford Family was inviting Narin to a potential engagement.
A sly smile formed on Ningning’s face as she leaned back against her bed. Now she was going to be the nemesis in Narin's life. She jumped up, opened her wardrobe, and began rummaging through her dresses.
Her fashion sense was about to take center stage. She spotted a dress that made her think of a "good girl" look...
By the time she finished dressing, she caught her reflection in the mirror. Ningning realized how different she looked in this outfit..she actually liked long gowns with slits.
she applied a touch of lipstick, brushed her hair. she smiled at her reflection.
she wasn't going to let Narin get the good things anymore instead she was going to ruin her.
Time was running out. She swiftly grabbed her purse, clutching the letter, and dashed out.
After following the address.
Ningning stepped into the private lounge, perched high above the bustling city with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that offered a sweeping view. As she entered, a hostess approached, her eyes briefly sizing up Ningning.
"Miss?"
Ningning met her gaze calmly.
"Miss Li"
"I have an appointment," she replied.
The hostess blinked, then quickly offered a smile. "Yes, of course. Right this way."
They moved past the lounge, where two girls were leaving, their faces tear-streaked and makeup ruined. One sniffled as tears streamed down her cheeks.
"She didn't even let me finish," one whispered, shaking her head. "I was dressed all sexy and glamorous."
"We're just wasting our time," they cried together.
Ningning’s eyes flicked toward them, her expression unreadable. The hostess leaned in closer.
"They've all been rejected," she whispered.
