“I understand,” Flora nodded. “I’ll do my best.”
“I think you should buy new clothes and redo your hairstyle,” Pascal continued. “You need to look like a beauty queen when we meet Clement tomorrow.”
“No problem,” Flora replied.
Pascal handed her a bundle of cash. “Use this to buy whatever you need. Look charming, elegant, irresistible. Remember, your beauty is the weapon that will open his heart.”
Flora took the money silently, still unsure of what she was walking into.
“What about my grandma’s money?” she asked softly.
“Don’t worry,” Pascal said, touching her cheek gently. “We’ve been together all day. I’ll give it to you when you come back.”
“Thank you,” Flora said, standing up. “I’ll get the clothes and do my hair today so that by tomorrow, I’ll be ready.”
Pascal smiled proudly. “That’s my girl. Smart, beautiful, and bold—the perfect player for this game.”
Flora managed a weak smile as she left the house. As she walked down the street toward the boutique, her heart was heavy. Yet still deep inside her, she never knew how this game would end but was ready to risk it.
The following morning, Pascal and Flora got ready to go to Clement’s house.
“Flora! Flora!” Pascal called repeatedly. “Why are you wasting time?”
“I’m still dressing,” Flora responded. “I’m almost done—just give me two more minutes.”
“Okay, babe,” Pascal replied. “Just make sure you package yourself well.”
Two minutes later, Flora stepped out, and Pascal froze the moment he saw her. She wore a simple yet elegant Pink gown that flowed around her ankles. Her neatly styled hair shimmered under the morning light, and the soft perfume she wore filled the air between them. Pascal was completely lost in thought, unable to take his eyes off her.
“Pascal! Pascal!” Flora called, waving her hand in front of him. “Hope nothing’s wrong? You look like you’ve been swallowed by deep thought.”
Pascal blinked and smiled. “No, not at all. I’m just lost in your beauty, Flora. The dress fits you perfectly—you look like a princess. And your hairstyle is stunning. To crown it all, your beauty throws me completely off balance.”
Flora giggled softly, brushing her hair behind her ear.
“If you don’t mind,” Pascal continued playfully, “let me hug you before you become the wife or girlfriend of my friend.”
Flora raised her eyebrows. “What do you mean by that? We never said we’d stop seeing each other again. Even if I marry your friend, I’ll still love you and will still see you.”
Pascal chuckled awkwardly. “I’m sorry, it was just a joke. But still—can I hug you before we go?”
Flora hesitated for a moment, then stepped closer. Pascal wrapped his arms around her gently, feeling her warmth.
“Flora,” he whispered, “you know my friend will fall flat for your beauty today—never knowing he’s falling into our game. Please, don’t forget to act smartly when we get there. Remember—you’re my sister, and I’m your uncle. Do you understand?”
Flora nodded. “No problem.”
Then they both left the house and entered the car, heading to Clement’s mansion.
From Pascal’s house to Clement’s was a thirty-minute drive. While they were still in the car, Pascal kept reminding Flora to play smart.
Inside the car, Flora suddenly asked, “Lest I forget, what about the money you promised to give me for my grandma?”
Pascal took out his wallet and handed her the money.
“This money is small,” he said. “But once you start playing the game well, you’ll be spending in billions.”
Flora smiled. “Okay, my love.”
Finally, they arrived at Clement’s billionaire mansion. The gateman opened the gate, and as they drove in, Flora spoke in amazement.
“Wow! This house is big and beautiful.”
They got down, and James Peg, one of Clement’s security guards, escorted them inside.
As soon as Clement saw his friend Pascal, he greeted him with a warm handshake, while three bodyguards stood nearby. Clement later asked the guards to excuse them.
James Peg, Liver Pug, and Silver Falt saluted and left.
“Pascal, don’t tell me that lady is the cousin you told me about,” Clement said with curiosity.
“Yes,” Pascal replied. “She’s the one.”
As Clement and Pascal continued to talk, Flora kept looking around the magnificent building. Thoughts began to race through her mind—visions of luxury and power.
If I marry Clement, she thought, I’ll also be saluted by guards and respected. I just hope this whole game ends well.
Clement turned back to Pascal. “You never told me back in school that you had such a beautiful cousin—like an angel.”
Pascal laughed. “You know campus life was full of studies and little fun. We had to study hard because we wanted to become doctors.”
“You’re right, Pascal,” Clement agreed. “But I won’t lie to you—your cousin is beautiful. She matches my taste.”
“You mean—tall, slim, and gorgeous?” Pascal added with a grin.
“Exactly!” Clement said, shaking his hand. “She smells nice too. What’s her name?”
“Her name is Flora,” Pascal replied.
"Wow," Clement said with admiration. "Flora—close to flower. No wonder she smells sweet like a rose."
He laughed softly. "I never knew such a beautiful woman lived here in South Africa. I thought I would have to marry a foreign lady, if not for my parents, who asked me to come back home."
Pascal smiled. "Your parents did a good thing by asking you to return and marry."
Clement laughed. "You sound like them, my friend." Both men chuckled together.
"One thing I noticed when I came in," Pascal said, "is the security around—three bodyguards and a gateman. How did you arrange all this so soon?"
Clement laughed. "Don’t you know? For me to be head of my parents’ refinery, I need protection. The same day you left, my father called and asked about my house. He immediately ordered three bodyguards, a gateman, two servant girls, and a driver to stay with me."
"Wow, that’s great, my guy," Pascal replied.
Pascal smiled slyly. "I see you’re already falling in love with my cousin. Should I call her?"
"Please, call her," Clement said eagerly.
Pascal turned. "Flora, come closer."
"Yes, Uncle," she answered sweetly.
"Meet my friend Clement—the one I told you about. Clement, this is my cousin, Flora.
Clement extended his hand. “Nice to meet you, Flora. Did I get your name right?”
“Yes, you did,” she replied, smiling politely.
“It’s truly a pleasure to meet you,” Clement continued, his voice softening. “I’m sure Pascal has told you who I am. My parents own one of the biggest oil refineries in Johannesburg. They’re billionaires, and now that I’m back home, I’ve taken over management. During my years abroad, I also made a lot of investments. In fact, I plan to build the biggest hospital in this state.”
“That’s impressive, Mr. Clement,” Flora said respectfully.
Clement smiled, watching her eyes glimmer in the light. “You know, my parents have been pressuring me to get married. When Pascal told me he had a cousin, I doubted she’d be as beautiful as he claimed. But when I saw you today, I lost my balance.”
Flora laughed lightly. “You mean off balance?”
“Yes,” Clement said, laughing. “Off balance—because you’re a perfect model of beauty.”
Pascal, sitting nearby, watched quietly as they exchanged smiles. Inside, his thoughts were dark. The plan is working perfectly, he mused. My foolish friend is walking straight into the trap that will destroy him. He’s brilliant, but too blind to see that he’s the prey in his own game.
