Chapter 45: Yang Qiqi is Causing Trouble

1479 Words
“Beep beep beep!” The alarm sound made Zhou Li, who was sitting on the sofa reading a book, look up. The monitor displayed a night vision image of the area outside the elevator, showing someone knocking on the blast-proof door. “Mom and Dad, it seems like it's the property management staff!” Outside the blast-proof door, Huang Xuefeng furrowed his brows. Since Shao Hang had specifically asked him to check on the situation, he had come personally to inquire about Zhou Lin's family's stance. “Property management? What's going on?” The voice of Zhou Caijun came through the camera, and Huang Xuefeng shone his flashlight toward the camera, his impatience growing stronger. They wouldn't even open the door? They didn't trust the property management staff? So this is how the rich are? It's just ridiculous, they should go straight to hell. “You’ve heard about the recruitment for the shelter, right? Is your family going to sign up?” Huang Xuefeng said loudly. “No, we won’t participate,” Zhou Caijun answered bluntly. “Oh, okay.” Huang Xuefeng nodded, then added, “I heard the owner of Unit 2 on the 16th floor is staying with your family. What does she think?” “I’m not participating either,” Wu Xue said. Huang Xuefeng nodded again. “Alright, we understand.” More than ten minutes later, Huang Xuefeng, panting heavily, appeared outside Huang Mengying's door. “Who is it?” “It’s Security Chief Huang Xuefeng.” Although he introduced himself, Huang Mengying showed no intention of opening the door. “What’s the matter?” “There is something!” Huang Xuefeng’s mood soured. He had hoped to meet Huang Mengying face to face. He had been eyeing this young, beautiful, and wealthy CEO for a long time. She lived alone, with only an old woman at home. Huang Xuefeng knew all this clearly. “We won’t participate, thank you,” Huang Mengying said. “By the way, is there anything I can help with? Feel free to ask me anytime,” Huang Xuefeng said. “Thanks for the offer, but nothing for now.” Anger boiled inside Huang Xuefeng as he was rejected, and if not for a shred of rationality, he would have wanted to break down the door! No! At least not right now! Although upset, he didn’t mind whether Zhou Lin’s family stayed or not. As long as Huang Mengying didn’t leave, he still had a chance. No one could compete with him, that’s how he thought. Once the footsteps outside faded, Huang Mengying patted her chest and quickly contacted Cheng Yali. “Not a single good person in the property management. I’ve noticed that Huang Xuefeng has been eyeing me in a strange way.” “With your looks, any man would look twice,” Cheng Yali joked. After some small talk, Huang Mengying returned to the matter they had discussed earlier. “Sister Cheng, if we don’t get more coal, I’m afraid my mom won’t make it.” “We can talk about it, but Zhou Lin is out right now.” “Out?” Huang Mengying paused slightly, thinking Zhou Lin wouldn’t go alone to collect dehydrated vegetables, would he? But even if he did, what could she do about it? Could she argue with Zhou Lin? No, that would only cost her Zhou family’s support, and it wouldn’t benefit her in any way. “Is your son really not coming back tonight?” Zhou Caijun asked. “Yes, he said he needs to gather some useful things, but he’s uncertain when he’ll be back.” The reason Zhou Lin had decided not to return was that he didn’t want to waste time on the road. However, this lazy decision nearly led him to regret it for the rest of his life! The next day, just before noon, the lights outside the community lit up again. Having received prior notice, Shao Hang quickly sent someone to greet them. Two hours earlier, Shao Hang had received the news that Xu Zhiyuan had returned. In total, more than 80 people from Lanshan Community had signed up for the shelter. Xu Zhiyuan had completed the initial screening, approving 42 people, with 20 still pending. The 42 selected individuals came from 16 different households, mostly from families without elderly or children, while the 20 pending individuals would have to go through a second round of interviews. Xu Zhiyuan didn’t come himself; today, Wu Jiancai was leading the team. Originally, none of this had anything to do with the Zhou family, but when the convoy members were helping the 16 households move their supplies, a scream for help suddenly came from the roof of Building 8! It was Yang Qiqi! She had overheard the convoy's announcements clearly yesterday in the tool room. Had she not heard the things said in the announcements, Yang Qiqi wouldn’t have dared to resist. After all, she couldn’t guarantee her survival outside the tool room! But fate had smiled upon her! The government had sent people, and they were recruiting! Yang Qiqi knew this was her best opportunity. If she missed it, her life would be over! In her excitement, she almost screamed aloud, but soon realized that her voice couldn’t reach anyone. Even if it did, no one below would hear her! Fortunately, the government people would come again the next day, giving Yang Qiqi a chance! With Zhou Lin still not back from his trip to the auto city, she took advantage of the quiet night, when everyone would be asleep, to use a screwdriver to forcibly tear down a wall panel in the tool room! When she heard movement downstairs, she quickly wrapped herself in a sleeping bag, broke through the wall panel, and rushed to the platform to shout loudly! “What’s going on?” Wu Jiancai’s face changed drastically as he looked at Shao Hang. “I—I don’t know either, it seems to be coming from the roof of Building 8!” “You guys go check it out!” As a government official, and now representing the shelter, such things couldn’t be ignored. “Should have just dealt with that woman already!” Zhou Li shook her head as she watched the monitor. She didn’t really care what Yang Qiqi was doing, but the key was the wall panel in the tool room being destroyed. The insulation had been compromised, and the vegetables and chickens they had worked hard to grow might be ruined! “I’m going to deal with her right now!” Cheng Yali was furious and pulled out a gun. Wu Xue, who was beside her, stared in disbelief. She never imagined the Zhou family would have something like this! “What kind of family is this?” “Mom, I suggest you calm down,” Zhou Li said. “You and Dad can go upstairs and bring that woman down.” Seeing Cheng Yali and Zhou Caijun head upstairs, Zhou Li began calling Zhou Lin. “It’s my fault!” After a brief pause, Zhou Lin said, “I’m on my way now, but don’t open the door until I get there.” “Brother, wishful thinking won’t help. I’ll handle it.” Before Zhou Li finished speaking, the alarm sounded from the monitor. Outside the blast-proof door, lights flashed, and a group of people led by Wu Jiancai had arrived. “I am representing the post-disaster command and ordering you to open the door immediately, or face the consequences!” Wu Jiancai stood in front of the blast-proof door, his expression grim. He had seen plenty of rich people, but to see a family that had built their door like a bank vault, huh, they must be hiding something! “Do you have a search warrant?” Zhou Li asked, using the camera. Wu Jiancai was taken aback. A search warrant? What’s going on? He couldn’t say that, though, or it would be like slapping himself in the face! “There’s a woman on your platform calling for help. It’s a special situation, and for the sake of public safety, I now require you to open the passage to the platform!” Wu Jiancai quickly came up with a reason. Without a search warrant, he could just say it was an emergency. If firemen could break down doors to save people, who would argue about a search warrant? “Oh, the woman on the platform? She’s my brother’s girlfriend. She’s causing a scene, we’re having a bit of a fight.” Although Zhou Li didn’t expect much, she hoped Wu Jiancai and the others would want to avoid trouble. Just as Wu Jiancai was about to speak, someone from the property management stepped forward. “She’s lying! I know who’s on the platform!”
