Chapter 16 The TorOne night Martha dreamed she found the Sacred Chalice on the summit of the Tor.[26] When the dream recurred on several consecutive nights she felt compelled to face her fears and climb the Tor. She set off early one morning on a clear, beautiful summer’s day when the others were at prayer. At first she could hear their voices chanting the words their Lord had taught his followers, and, as she walked, she whispered the words herself: “Lord forgive us as we forgive others.” Her thoughts drifted from the words of the prayer to the cruelties she had witnessed in Rome.
