*CHAPTER 12: Door Number One*
---
The wardrobe creaked open... and Lena saw herself inside.
But it wasn’t her bedroom. Not anymore.
Lena fell forward through the darkness and hit cold stone. The air smelled like old blood and dust. She scrambled to her feet, heart pounding. 2:18am flashed on her phone before the screen cracked and died.
She was in a copy of her bedroom. Same bed. Same window. Same cracks in the wall.
But the mirrors were wrong. Every wall was covered in mirrors, floor to ceiling. And in each mirror, Lena saw a different version of herself. Old Lena screaming. Young Lena crying. Dead Lena with black eyes.
The wardrobe stood in the center of the room. Except this wasn’t wood. It was made of bones. Human bones, tied together with red string. It pulsed like a heartbeat.
Her diary lay open on the bed. Pages were torn out. Red ink dripped from the edges like blood.
“Welcome to the Sacrifice Room, Keeper,” a voice whispered.
Lena spun around. Black-Eye Lena stood behind her, but her eyes were normal now. Sad. Human.
“Door Number One,” Black-Eye Lena said softly. “It takes your memory. That’s the price.”
Words appeared in the air, glowing red:
*CHOOSE YOUR SACRIFICE:*
*1. Memory of Grandma*
*2. Memory of Your Name*
*3. Memory of Why You’re Here*
Lena shook her head. “No. I won’t choose.”
The bone wardrobe opened with a scream. Inside, her childhood teddy bear sat on a shelf. But it wasn’t fabric. It was screaming. Real screams. Human screams.
“Every door needs payment,” the Entity’s voice boomed from everywhere. “No payment, no Keeper. No Keeper, the world ends tonight, girl.”
Lena understood then. If she didn’t sacrifice something, the Entity would break free. Millions would die. Grandma suffered 40 years for nothing.
Her hand shook as she reached for option 3. Memory of why you’re here.
She couldn’t do it. She couldn’t forget grandma.
The bone wardrobe slammed shut. Her diary on the bed burst into flames.
“No!” Lena lunged for it.
Too late. The first page burned: *“Lena Okafor, Age 17”*
Pain shot through her head. She stumbled back, screaming. She didn’t know her age anymore. 17? 7? 70? The number was gone.
The second page burned: *“Mama’s Face”*
Lena screamed again. She tried to picture her mother and saw only a blur. Brown eyes? Black hair? She couldn’t remember. Tears burned her cheeks.
The third page caught fire. Words formed in the flames: *“The Unknown Secret”*
Black-Eye Lena grabbed her wrist. “Too late, Keeper. Door Number One takes what you refused to give.”
Lena reached for the last burning page with shaking fingers. The words “The Unknown Secret” curled and blackened.
Fire consumed the title.
And just like that, lena forgot why she ever opened the wardrobe at 2:17am
Darkness swallowed her thoughts
