I woke to silence. Not the gentle stillness of peace, but the kind that screamed. I blinked slowly, trying to adjust to the morning light bleeding through the ornate curtains of Aiden’s bedroom. Or was it ours now? The warmth of his body still lingered beside me, yet the bed was empty. A crumpled sheet where he once lay. Today was the day I was to become Luna of the Shadowfang Pack. My heart didn’t race with excitement. It trembled with confusion. I sat up slowly, the silk of my nightgown brushing against my skin, and wrapped my arms around my knees. Should I go through with this wedding? Was I really going to stand beside a man who might have had a hand in the death of my parents?
