I didn’t know what shocked me more, the burning pain in my foot or the face that emerged once the mask came off. Mara. Alive. In Aiden’s room. Time slowed to a crawl. Aiden’s expression contorted with fury as he stood from the couch in a blur of motion. "Mara," he snarled. "What madness is this?? What in the gods' names are you doing here? “What madness?” Mara’s voice was brittle, every word dipped in venom. “You dare ask me that? After what you did? After what all of you did to me?” She smirked, unbothered by his rage. Her dark curls tumbled out of the mask's confines as she stepped closer to us, her eyes glittering with hate and madness. Aiden faltered. I could see the war in his eyes, shock, guilt, and rage, all clashing in his soul. “You planned to kill me. And my baby.”
