The day rolled on slowly, thick with the weight of expectations and routines. After the maids left, murmuring their surprised thanks and occasional curious glances at me like I’d just tamed a dragon, the house quieted again. Aiden had pulled me into a warm embrace, nuzzling my hair as if that was his way of saying he was still growing, still trying for me. But the incident left me reflective.
