CHAPTER 1    Registration   "Today is the last day of registration, you really won't join?" Sophia reminded me again.   It's true that this is the last day. After the confrontation between Mom, I didn't try to ask permission again. She's already mad at me without any reason. Or of course, there is a reason. I just never knew what it was. I don't want her to be mad at me anymore.   "That's what she said," I shrugged.   "Oh, come on. Stop playing as if you are a nice daughter. This is why they take control of your life! Because you don't break their rules."   My eyes widened, "You're expecting me to break the rules?"   "Yes, duh? They are doing this to you because they think that you will follow everything they say. And they will never have a problem with that. Because you are so nice! Can't you see, they are using your kindness."   "They are my parents, So." I said, losing all the hope I have.   "Oh please, my parents are not like that."   I smiled bitterly. I used to pity myself whenever Sophia shared her family's story to me. I can't help it always but to feel envious towards her. Sophia has a nice family. She is also a good singer and her parents are very supportive.   Like me, she also dreams of becoming a well-known singer. The only thing that we have in difference is that I can and I love to produce a song. I love making music. Working on lyrics is like talking to myself for me. And it always feels like writing a song is the only one I can talk to.   "I love you, Sis. I'm just telling you that they are not treating you right. It's not healthy for you."   "Okay? So what, I will break the rules. They didn't allow me to join, and I'm going to join."   Her brows shot up, "Yeah? What's so wrong with that?"   "Hello? Didn't you remember? We need their sign so I can register!"   "Fake it."   My mouth circled as my eyes widened. I turned to her in shock. I can't process what she just said. I can't even tell if she's telling the truth or what.   "Wait, what?"   Sophia closed her eyes so tight and gripped her hair like I'm the one who's stressing her out when the truth is, she is the one who's stressing me out! What the heck?   "You are so nice that you don't even know what the word fake is?"   I sighed heavily, "So, be serious."   "I am serious! Oh my God. Do you even know what evil is?"   "I know it, okay? Stop it."   "You are stressing me out, girl. Fix your decision."   I was left with deep thoughts the whole day of our classes. The registration will end one hour after the last class for the day.   I can't focus on our every discussion and lessons because Sophia's suggestion is killing me to death. I wanted to join so bad. To be known by some people just because I sing is a very good feeling and I want it. But what will Mom and Dad do if they find out? What if they cast me out of the house?   They never treated me like their daughter. Like how other parents would take good care of their child, I never felt the feeling. But I never demanded anything. I didn't rebel, and it seriously never crossed my mind to do that.   I love them and I respect them like how parents should be respected. Sometimes, I just think that they are busy and one of the biggest businessmen in the country. That's why they don't have time to take care of us. That is an acceptable reason. But as a child, I didn’t want it that way.   I sighed heavily and stared at the new registration form our adviser gave me. I was so torn between two things. The good and the bad. But the good will not do me any good. The bad will. I grip my hold on the pen I am now holding. My hand is shaking to hell. I stopped a bit and sighed again. The shaking will ruin the fake signature. I need to make it look real because that's the only way I wouldn't get caught.   Because if I get caught and it reaches my parents, I am so doomed.   I signed the form smoothly. I didn't think of anything but fairytales to prevent my nervousness. I am all sweaty when I let out a smile because I have done it! I finally faked my parents' signature!   "Trust me. You made a great decision,” Sophia whispered because we have a teacher in front.   "If they find out, I'm as good as dead."   "Who says that they need to find out?" Her eyebrows are turning up and down like a crazy woman.   I rolled my eyes.   Sophia accompanied me to the school office to hand in my registration. It is the last day. Tomorrow is the evaluation and next week before graduation is the contest. If only I didn't waste the early registration form my adviser gave me as a special candidate, I will have a chance to be part of the contest without gaining any sweat. Now I still have to undergo an evaluation.   "You will join, Miss Williams?"   "Yes, Ma'am."   "Your form is later than I expected," The school music coach said.   I look down. I feel embarrassed even though I'm not really embarrassed.   The music coach knows me, other than being the daughter of the famous Williams' because I joined a singing competition before when I was in Elementary. The school I am in is one of the largest schools. It is an All-time school open for Primary, High school and College. Though the primary school is in a different place. Just the same school name and owner.   "The evaluation will be done tomorrow. I believe the result will be out tomorrow too, so you should wait."   "Thank you, Ma'am Ava."   She gave me a smile and a nod. I bow for respect before turning my back and walking towards the door. Sophia is the first person I saw as soon as I got out of the office.   "Did they accept it?" she asked.   I fake a sad face and a pity aura. I saw the nervousness in her face as she was waiting for my answer. I didn't utter a word. Her brows furrowed and her expression turned into sadness like what I'm showing her.   "They didn't? But why? It's still open. They literally said an hour after school," she demanded.   I can't help but laugh at her. She looks so mad and ready to attack the school office and speak out all her demands just because I didn't get in. Her face quickly became confused when I laughed. From furrowed eyebrows to a creased forehead.   "What? You're confusing the hell out of me!"   "I got in!" I shouted in front of her.   Her mouth circled but immediately zipped it like I can't be trusted.   "Are you for real?"   I laughed so hard. I can't believe just because of a small prank, her trust on me faded that fast.   "Yes! I literally got in."   After assuring her that I really got in, she started to shout so loud and even hugged me so tight.   "Yes! Oh my God! I can't believe this!"   "Okay, okay stop," I pushed her away. She pouted.   Her mouth leveled on my ears when she hugged me. That's why her shouts are so freaking loud. I feel like my ear drum broke. The loud of her usual shouts doubled because of it.   "At least, you got in!"   "Yeah, I guess this is it."   "Just don't ever make mistakes to tell your parents about this."   My smile faded. A sudden realization hit me. I'm not safe. Well, with parents like them, I don't think I will be ever safe. One wrong move and one wrong word, they will definitely kick me out.   They never supported me with my singing. They never get to listen to one of my written songs even though one of them is inspired by them. Just a casual daughter with a casual and loving family. But my life didn't turn out the way I wanted it. It didn't turn out the way I wrote it.   It was always me and myself. I am grown now. I can spend it on myself. And of course, I can support myself alone. I have a talent and I have a dream. I know I can do this.
