The morning dawned bright and cold. Daniel and Nuo searched the house and the neighbouring houses for food and drink, but every house they searched had already been cleared out. Daniel’s thirst was building and his stomach was painful from hunger pangs. He knew the others were feeling the same.
When they had given up their search and returned to the house where they had spent the night, Emily announced her intention to return to the service station on the motorway. There was water and food back there.
And her mother would be waiting for her.
