Chapter 6
Thomas is flirting with the waiter at their booth. Being the designated driver, he indulges in one glass of drink only. He is sipping his one and only drink, slowly. From time to time, he takes a glimpse at the dance floor to watch the girls dance and see that they are not troubled.
He did not bother to join the girls on the dance floor, seeing that the waiter assigned to their booth was worthy of his attention. He is so hot!
Anyway, he is also waiting for the sponsor for their night out. Last week, his uncle Mark called him, asking to arrange for Claire to meet Jon one more time. He agreed to a meeting but decided that it would be better to let the meeting happen spontaneously. A meeting on a neutral ground without the afterthought of formal and stiff surroundings.
He suggested the meeting be in a fun place to ease the nerves of his friend and provide a harmonious ambience for both Claire and Jon. Thomas decided not to tell Claire about the meeting so Claire wouldn’t be so uptight.
That was when Jon invited him to this bar that had newly opened. Jon is one of the shareholders and promised Thomas to give them tickets and VIP treatment for tonight.
“Hey. You won’t believe whom I saw and danced with! . . . Jon’s here Thom.”, Claire slumped on the bench beside me, startling Thomas. She blew her hair off her forehead, frustratedly.
“I know, girl. Saw you dancing sweetly with him downstairs. You two looked good together dancing cozily. Looked like no air could pass in between.”, Thomas teasingly said, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
“Oh. . . . . I did not know it was him until I opened my eyes! God, Thom, it felt good in his arms. I’m just ashamed I behaved that way, like a simpering i***t. Ugh!”, Claire grumbled, reaching for the unopened bottled water.
Claire poured the water from the bottle into a glass on the table. She raised the glass to her sweaty and warm forehead to cool off. A moment passed before she drank the water. She sighed heavily, thinking how she flirted with Jon unabashedly. She’s brazen and bold on the dance floor, especially when she feels an intimate connection with Jon.
Claire felt a presence standing beside her seat. She knew without looking who it was. She did not raise her head to acknowledge his presence nor look in his way. She continued to drink her water and put the empty glass on the table.
She heard someone clearing his throat beside her but chose to ignore it. Thomas poked her hand but she just shook her head. She heard Thomas sigh.
“Hi Jon! Pleasure seeing you here.”, Thomas greeted Jon and motioned him to join them in the booth and waved for Jon to sit on the seat in front of Claire.
“I’m getting drinks for everyone at the bar. What’s your poison, Jon?” Thomas asked.
Claire was surprisingly alarmed. She did not want to be left alone with Jon. Her cheeks still felt warm from blushing. She held onto Thomas' arm but he shook her hand away. Claire looked ready to run off, so Jon transferred to the seat beside Claire to block her way.
Instead of ordering from the waiter assigned to their booth, Thomas stood up and went to the bar. He wanted to give Jon and Claire privacy.
“Hi Claire! I did not think that you’d run away from me once you knew who you were dancing intimately with. Are you intimidated by my presence, Claire?” Jon held Claire’s chin and raised it to gaze at her eyes. He wanted to see Claire’s reaction and real feelings.
“No. . . I was surprised it was you. I did not think I’d see you again,” Claire said.
Claire’s heart was beating wildly. She’s glad she didn’t stutter answering Jon.
