The Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

EMMA'S POV This must be a bad dream, the worst I have ever had. Did he really say I would get executed? For killing who exactly? I am wolfless and weak compared to them, where would I get the strength to hurt anyone? "This is . . . absurd! Who . . who do you think I killed?" I stutter, my heart beating hard enough for someone close to hear. My mate leans back on his seat, his features darkening with uncontrollable anger. "I told you not to waste my time!" His eyes glow with rage just like they did before he burned those three soldiers alive. "You poisoned three of your friends before escaping into my kingdom. Did you really think you could just stay comfortably in my palace and I would never know the evils you have done?" He snarls and my mouth falls open with shock. "That's insane! I have never had friends and I have . . . never harmed anyone! " I shriek and hear him and a few councilmen snort. "I was running from Silver moon pack because my family hated me, not because I hurt anyone." I lower my voice and try hard not to stammer just so they can see I am not a mad woman. I imagine I do look like one. "So you're calling our beloved future Queen a liar?" One of the councilmen questions, gesturing at my mate's beautiful girlfriend. She is the one that has lied to them? What a wicked being she is?! She already has my mate and people already call her the future Queen, why does she need to do this? To have me executed? She wears an angry expression like everyone else, acting like I am the villain here that needs to be punished. "I found out who you really are and let everyone know. You pretend to be the innocent victim yet you're a devil in disguise!" She accuses in fake rage. She is such a good actor, no wonder everyone has believed her. "Having my mate wasn't enough for you?!" I snap, finally losing all control to anger. "Did you sleep with every man in this room to make them believe your lies? Who exactly did you tell them I killed? Your -" "Utter one more word and I will burn the hell out your wicked head!" My mate cuts me off with a menacing hiss that makes my body grow stiff. "We all know who the liar is here. If you insult Miss Reynolds again I will make you fall dead right where you stand!" He snarls in genuine outrage. He would kill me for insulting his evil girlfriend?! I must be the unluckiest girl on earth. Or in other words the most undesired. His girlfriend may be the devil in disguise but pointing it out to him may cost me my life. Perhaps I should just stick to defending myself against her allegations. "I did lie to you about the real reason I left my pack." I confess. "But it wasn't because I hurt anyone. Why don't you send someone to investigate so you can know the truth?" I say in a pleading voice. His girlfriend shifts in her seat, suddenly seeming uncomfortable. She is afraid of the truth but none of them seems to notice. "Our soldiers has more important things to do." My mate's refined mother states dismissively. She too must be eager to see me executed, after all my death would lift the curse and her son wouldn't have to sacrifice his life. She might even be helping her son's lover to frame me, I wouldn't be surprised. "We have two credible witnesses from your pack who already told us everything we needed to know. I never expected you to own up to your crimes, they also informed us that you have always had a vile personality. No one is wasting more time trying to reconfirm the truth just because you're too evil to accept it." My mate states with finality. Seems like his lover had her case well schemed to counter any doubts or arguments. But her biggest weapon is their blind believe in her fake benignity. I imagine the so called witnesses are very rich by now, she must have paid them a fortune for them to lay witness to false accusations. "Your witnesses must have been paid." I point desperately. The glares from the councilmen become more intense. I have indirectly called their flawless future Queen a liar, again! She is like an angel to them, insinuating she is capable of a bad infuriates them. But does their anger matter when I will get executed if I let her win? They may not like what I say but I have got to try the best I can to make them see the real truth. Otherwise I will get executed for no good reason. I look back at my mate who is also watching me with a riled face like I am the grossest thing he has ever had to look at. I speak anyway. "Everything your future Queen told you is a lie. Her only goal is to have me executed and -" "Shut up!" He roars so loud that I jump back in shock. "Unlike you Tracy is a principled, virtuous woman with no lousy intentions towards anyone. You should be ashamed of yourself for attempting to degrade her. Be assured you'll get the due punishment for too." He chastises, his ominous gaze making me shiver with fear. All his councilmen nods and grunts in approval. His mother sighs with relief and leans back on her seat with a broad smile. Tracy retains a glum expression, pretending she isn't thrilled that I am getting punished for defending myself against her false accusations. But I know that on the inside she is extremely delighted. I have no way of proving that she lied to them as long as they believe she is a benevolent being that shouldn't have her words or actions questioned. She is the one that should have been mated to the gorgeous and strict Alpha King since he is deeply in love with her. Our mate bond seems to mean nothing to him. All that she says is what he believes. "You murdered three innocent people in cold blood, for that you will be executed, publicly!" He declares and I gasp out loud. The entire council on the other hand claps their hands in celebration. I had forgotten that if I die the curse will be lifted and they will always have their powerful King. I bet they didn't give a s**t about my innocence. "You will be locked up in our hellish prison for two weeks before our executioners cut your head off. The crime of insulting the most loyal and adept member of my kingdom will not go unpunished either. You will be given three times more work than the other prisoners. Hopefully that will teach you some good ethics to die with." My mate adds in his cold, alpha voice. The soldiers warned me that he is unforgiving. Nothing however could have prepared me for this. A public execution?! "Sir . . . please . . . you're making a mistake!" I stammer, my voice growing thick with panic. "Take her away!" He orders the soldiers that had brought me in and they immediately seize my arms again. I am too shocked to move, so they literally drag me out. I am not ready to die, not when I have done nothing wrong to deserve the punishment. I will be forever known as the murderer even if my death lifts the curse. I won't just let them do this to me, I would rather die fighting. My whole body is shaking with shock and fear, but I try to jerk my arms free from the soldiers holding me. "Let go of me!" I yell as I kick one on the knee and he stumbles back. "You evil b***h!" His colleague mutters before landing a heavy punch on the side of my head. I gasp as my vision blurs and darkness envelopes me. My body hits the ground with an audible bang. I pass out early enough to miss the excruciating pain.
