Scent of Raindrops
Chapter 2

‘Raindrops?
I heard him giggle.
‘Hi there, sunglass!’ he sounds so jolly.
‘No. I believe you’ve mistaken me with a wrong person.’ I said firmly. That’s right, Eliza.
‘Uhm no. Same sunglasses on a rainy day.’ He said. His confidence irritates me.
‘Well, my sunglasses is none of your business, raindrops.’ I said as I fixed my sunglasses with the tip of my finger.
‘I’d love being called raindrops for the rest of my life.’ He sounded flirtatious.
‘Meaning?’ I asked.
‘Hmmm allow me to summarize our love story, sunglass’
LOVE STORY!!!???
Before I could say a word, he proceeds to verbalize his silly imagination.
‘You and me met at the pedestrian lane on a rainy day, the we met again on a rainy day, then we’re gonna keep on bumping on each other even on sunny days, we’ll get married then I die first. HEHE. Sweet.’
‘Excuse me?’
Speechless. How can someone be this confident.
‘Did you really just said that?’ I am in disbelief.
‘Yep. All planned out, sunglass.’ He sounded so confident and also unbothered about anything. This kind of spirit is new to me. What breed is this man?
‘You don’t know me. I don’t know you.’ I said to him.
I couldn’t hear anything else anymore since our conversation started. It’s like he’s the only thing around me, the only thing I could hear.
Although I keep on sounding like I’m not interested, it’s the whole opposite of what I’m feeling. I’m very interested in the words he would say. His captivating spirit and his annoying confidence.
‘Well, that’s how it starts, sunglass.’ He said.
Irritating reply but also kind of what I expected from this breed.
Even though I’m quiet amused by his character, he’s still a stranger. I immediately got up and picked my bag. The rain has stopped anyways. And I could smell him more. I heard him stood up as well. I walked out without a word.
‘Where are you going?’ he asked.
‘To the police’. I said as I started walking.
‘Okay, I’m going with you.’ He sounded like a kid thinking I’d bring him to the mall with me.
But seriously!???
‘Are you crazy?!’ I said as I look back to where I think he’s standing.
‘Huh, why?’ he had the audacity to asked.
‘I’m reporting you to the police, you idiot.’ I answered. I’m not actually going to. I just want to scare him off.
‘Why though? I’m a really good citizen helping people in need. No offense, but especially PWD’S.’ I can’t really see him but I could picture him putting his hand on his chest.
He sounds so dramatic.
‘I don’t need anyone’s help.’ I said.
‘I figured. But I feel bad not making sure you get home safe.’
‘I’m not your responsibility and you’re no obligated to me. I just happened to meet you by accident yesterday.’ I explained to him.
‘Oh, well, you waited for me to come there so you could hear someone cross the street.’
My eyebrows crossed. Does he know?
‘I was waiting for someone who has an umbrella. I wasn’t specifically waiting for you.’ I don’t want him creating cheesy love stories in his silly head again.
‘I had an umbrella yesterday that’s why you never got too wet. I was there the whole time even before you noticed me. And clearly, you’re blind. I knew you were.’ He said.
The last sentenced he said echoed in my head like crazy.
‘I AM NOT BLIND.’ I whispered like I was threatening him.
‘Uhmmmm…not so sure about that. You’re talking to a lamp post, I’m right here (clear throats) I’m on your left side ma’am.’ He said.
….. This is the first time I’m gonna think I’ll die of embarrassment any second from now.
Act cool, Eliza. Act cool.
‘I dare you speak to me again and I’m calling the police!’ I said in defense.
‘Okay, sunglass. But okay. Can I atleast take you home? We at the same properly and you know, as a good citizen, I’m very concerned----’ I didn’t let him finish.
‘Shut the hell up before, I cover your mouth with cement.’
I could never do that ofcourse. I just wanted to let him know I’m capable of defending myself.
‘Cement sounds so mean. Why are you so mean, sunglass, that’s bad.’ He’s still trying to have a conversation with me.
‘Well, cement would shut you up, wouldn’t it?’
‘Sunglass, you’re still facing the lamppost by the way….?’
‘I know!’ I screamed out of irritation.
I just realized that the piano piece is still playing and it served as our background music for this entire moment and I hate myself thinking I’m in a stressing story with this total stranger I met on a pedestrian lane, or more like mortal enemies kind of story.
The piano piece is just too good…and from now on I would remember this interaction whenever I’ll hear this piece.
I took a sigh and turned to him.
‘I appreciate your kindness yesterday. That’s all its gonna be. Goodbye and I hope you have a nice life, raindrops.’
As I took a step away from him, I heard him sigh. Until after a few steps I made, he said something so beguile enough to made me stop from walking.
‘Yesterday wasn’t just an accident, sunglass. I believe it’s serendipity.’
‘What…’ I uttered.
‘When love feels like magic, people call it destiny. When destiny has a sense of humor, it’s serendipity.’
I know that movie….
How dare this man say that line to me!
‘How dare you use that line from that movie, you creepy stalker!’ I said as I walked back towards him and hit him with my bag. I know for sure I hit his shoulder.
‘Ouch, you’re so violent…how sure are you that you hit the right person though? It could be someone passing by-----’
‘Stop messing with me you fool.’ I flexed as if I’m about to hit him again.
’Okay, okay, okay! Goodbye, sunglass! I’m sorry. Nice to meet you by the way. Uhm, what’s your name?’
This man is getting into my nerves!
‘Goodbye!’ I said as I fully walked away from him.
But God, he smells like raindrops.
