-AUDREY- Sunday afternoon, and I was finishing the kitchen when Luther strolled in. He had been spending every night in the compound. Sometimes he left for work in a car, sometimes in a helicopter, but he always came back and checked on me before turning in. "Want to go out, Audrey?" It was overkill, but sweet nonetheless. A little zing hit my heart. Was he asking me out? "Define out. If you mean my deposition at the police station, I already made plans with Tank. He’ll drive me on Wednesday." I wiped the kitchen island clean and tossed the paper towel in the bin. "You told me yesterday you’ve never been to the desert. And I want to give you a ride. Creating new memories, remember?" He tucked his hands in his pockets, tilting his head down until a strand of hair fell over his eyes.
