-AUDREY- I was placing the dough in the banneton when his voice reached me across the kitchen. "Hey." My eyes lifted from the island to meet Luther’s, and the sight made something flutter in my belly. "Hi." My voice sounded almost like a question. It carried all the things I wanted to ask. What are you doing here? Why did you leave for more than a week? Did you miss me the way I missed you? That last one startled me. When I was in captivity, the pain and fear were so strong I forced myself to detach from reality. If I don’t feel anything, I can’t feel pain, right? It worked. It worked too well. I reached a point where I couldn’t feel anything at all. No dread, but no joy either. And now that I’m here at Salvation MC, putting back the pieces of my broken soul, something is growing
