Chapter 2 ‘c***k’ – the tree fell down, and I watched as splinters flied across me. I frowned looking at now the lifeless body of the tree lying on the ground. At least we’ll be hot during the cold winter. I moved my head up and closed my eyes as some sunshine rays hit my face warming it nicely. No matter how much we tried to ignore it I could always see and feel the difference in my life. My family tried to keep life as normal as we could but ever since that day everything had changed already, as if i had opened a portal my strength kept getting out and it was hard to get it back inside. I had broken two doors already, leaving them hanging by a hinge as I broke the upper hinge while closing it and forgetting about my increased strength. They tried to keep it as usually as it went back then but my father had already started to look at the possibilities, he left for days while traveling looking for answers. Id catch my mother looking anxious at times sitting on the porch a worried look towards the forrest and when I asked her what was wrong she’d just smile and shake her head ‘its nothing dear’ she’d say but I already knew where the matter was, as I was standing right in front of her. The only one who didn’t change was Alas, still continuing his routine of stories, waking me up early in the morning so we could pack our bags and have a picnic at our usual place. I kept having flashbacks of that day, him running away crying, the bear chasing after him, and if I was sleeping they’d turn to a nightmare instead, except the bear would catch him in the end, and I couldn’t move this time , staying in the ground screaming. At those nights my mother would rush to my room, her eyes wet the same way as mine, holding me close rocking me till I controlled my breathing once again and went to sleep. We would talk in the morning as we ate food, her hand squeezing mine, giving me comfort once again, and it was hard but with their help I was getting better. My injuries long gone for a few weeks now, so I had decided to train. My father came early that day, grabbed a bag on his shoulders and led us inside the forest. We moved for a while and I kept thinking that we’d go to that part of the woods but he stopped before doing so and I breathed easily letting air I didn’t know I had been holding. “We need to see the extent of you powers Anastasia” He said and I complied. We started easy, testing the power of my fist on his palm and when it got to much we stopped as his already callused big hands were starting to bruise. We continued with small trees, punching and kicking them till they fell down. “Run” And I ran, my feet carrying me miles ahead, leaving him behind in a matter of seconds. It was easy to see that I was faster than most, not humanly possible yet it felt controllable. Soo weeks went by, we tried a routine of both, training my powers yet learning to control them. As I was watching the lying tree i snapped out of my daze when I heard a loud c***k coming from above me. I jumped and turned around looking from under the trees. And my heart almost stopped when my eyes made contact with his. It was scary how green his eyes were, it was nothing like I’ve seen before, as if a light was there inside of the green making them shine. I moved back a bit as his eyes narrowed and Im sure if he was just a bit older I would have already started to cry, but I swallowed my fear and spoke. “Who are you?” His eyes watched my movements carefully and he leaned his head on the side. “Who are you”He repeated after me his voice more curious than mine. “Are you copying me?” I replied a scowl in my face getting annoyed. He just looked at me now boringly and shook his head no. “What are-“ He suddenly got up on his legs and leaped down falling on his feet but stumbling for a moment. I gasped but I stayed put on my place shocked at the fall he took. As If he saw my shock his mouth curled a bit and started making his way towards me. “Why did you destroy the tree” He said his eyebrow rising up the smirk still there. But what shocked me was the missing shock I expected from him. Wasn’t he taken back by my strength? “I was practicing.” I stated my jaw clenching. “Yes, I have seen you do that.” He noted and as he spoke I took a better look of him now that he was not on top of my head. His eyes looking even more interesting from near , the dark green almost swirling, captivating my own eyes on his. His physique was what caught my eyes next after his eyes , he was thin and frail , and even shorter than me. His skin which was darker than mine looking somehow pale and almost lifeless. And under those scarily shining green things were eye bags darker than I’ve ever seen on someone before. I furrowed my eyebrows curiously and tilted my head left looking at him now no longer scared just captivated. “You’re looking at me weirdly .” He snorted and took a step closer to me. “You do like kind of weird.” I remarked and regretted as he lowered his head slightly a flash of emotion going through his face. “I didn’t mean it in a bad way.” I rushed out and took a step closer my hand going up in defense. He looked up at my eyes again and gave me a small smile and his whole face lighted up and I felt a relief rushing through me, as in a command my lips curled upwards too and I smiled looking at his own. It was this when we met for the first time, a boy with piercing green eyes and black hair, and we met after that for years. . . . “Anastasia, you suck at running.” His laugh vibrated through the trees as we bolted after the brown deer. I grunted and sped after him trying to catch him instead of the deer. “I don’t suck, you just tricked me into getting a head start.” “I did not do such thing, you just have the mental observation of a 3 year old.” That got me angry and I sped until I felt the heat on the heel of my foot and my lungs. He turned his head thinking I was way behind and shock was plastered to his face when he saw me on his side. At that moment I lunged at him my hands grabbing his arms, knocking us both down. He groaned on the contact of the ground and tried to get up but I was faster pinning him on the ground with his arm tightly around his neck. “Anastass” He croacked his body thrashing trying to get out of my hold. “Say you’re sorry or we will stay here until my dad comes.” I promised him. “Im sorry.” He said and I started to let go. “That you suck.” He added and I went ham trying to get him once again but he had already slipped out now on the ground a few steps away. I got up a scowl on my face marching murderously towards him but he put his palm up and spoke while wheezing. “Okay, Im sorry, please stop because my lungs can’t take it anymore.” He rasped his sentence broken in halves. ‘Thank god’ I thought since my lungs and legs were screaming too, but I gave him a small glare and fell on the ground lying down with the rays hitting my face closing my eyes to feel the good warmth. “You get way to murderous sometimes Anastass.” He remarked from above and I opened my eyes to see his glowing eyes blocking my sun. “Move away, Im enjoying the sun.” I grunted and he smiled throwing something that hit my face. “Ouch.” I shouted but forgot the pain as soon as I heard the smell coming from the paper bag he threw at me. I sat up immediately and looked at him happily. “Is this the pie you told me about.” I said enthusiastically while holding the bag on my chest. “Yes it is” He smiled proudly and plopped down next to me. I was over the moon and immediately opened the bag carefully not to tear it. He watched me as I took the pie out grinning like a fool probably. He had told me about this pie and I’ve always thought of it, but never mentioned to him since I didn’t want to make him feel bad if his family couldn’t make it. I turned towards him and gave him the biggest smile I could, and he just laughed quietly bumping his shoulder with mine. “Thank you , I’ve never had anything that smells like this before.” “Try it.” He spoke his eyes waiting with anticipation. I nodded cheerfully and turned to take a bite but stopped before I touched it. I turned towards him. “What about you?” “I already ate.” He simply said with a huff “don’t think about me Anastass just eat the pie, you’ve dreamed about it for way to long.” I furrowed my brows as he moved his head up closing his eyes the same way I previously had. I looked back at the pie on my hands and grabbed the pie breaking it in two same halves. I bumped his shoulder with mine and he opened his eyes questionably , I nudged the pie closer to him and he frowned a displeased look on his face. “I said I wasn’t hungry.” He snapped and began to rise up but before he could I pushed my feet on top of his and he stopped automatically. “Please, I know you ate but if won’t taste the same eating it alone.” I gave him a small smile hoping he couldn’t see the heat my face was growing from the sudden action I did. I think he was in the same daze as I was soo he just nodded his head and looked at me his eyes almost confused. I moved my legs as if nothing happened and handed him the pie. “Cheers!” “Cheers!” He broke into a smile and we began eating the Pie which will always and forever be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. The deliciousness melted the redness of my cheeks away, but I swore as mine left his started rising on his cheeks, and at that moment as we were both chewing I realized how he had started to change, his face no longer pale and frail, a bit more fullness added to it, his brown hair getting a shade darker, and his tan becoming darker. He looked beautiful I dared to think and I felt the rush on my cheeks again soo I just turned to my pie and continued enjoying it trying to get that thought out of my head. “That was the best thing I have ever eaten.” I said folding the paper bag and putting it in my bag. “Thank you soo much. I’ll make sure I’ll get double the food I usually get.” I said and he just nodded somehow looking a bit sad. “I should bring food more often.” It was whispered softly as he dusted of his hands and leaped up on his feet. “I’ll bring something next time too.” He pushed his palm for me to grab and stand up. “You don’t have to do that, my food will go bad if we don’t eat it, and you know that my mother packs way to much since she thinks I train too much.” Which was almost true, but I always sneaked some more food enough for us both, but for him since he used to be way thinner than I was. I grabbed his hand and got up dusting the back of my pants. “I’ll never forget what you do for me Anastasia” He said and smiled while still holding my hand. Soo we both stayed like that with the rays hitting our face but this time it wasn’t the sun which heated our faces.
