Dylan’s P.O.V
I was working at the market, selling apple desserts, trying to make money to fix the leak in the roof. I patched it a few weeks ago, but it was only a temporary fix, that didn’t last long. My plan was to get something good to permanently patch it up. I should be thinking about how to get people to buy my desserts, but all I could think about was how nice it would be to have tons of money, and not worry about leaks in the roof. Most of the people who buy my desserts are ready fancy people, but lately business has been slow. People were worried about what shoes they should buy for the ball, the palace is having. Rumour has it the princess is gonna choose a husband. But I think that is silly, she’s only like, 15, 16. Younger than me. I’m shaken by my thoughts as a potential customer walks up and asks how much for the apple crumble. I tell her how much it is and end up getting talked down five dollars less.
I’m always told by my dad that, I can attract anyone I want my way. He tells me I’ve got the looks, with the shaggy blond hair, and gleaming blue eyes. My dad tells me I have a smile that is contagious, and could win the heart of anyone. But, what’s the point if I’m not ready for a relationship. I still have to look after my dad, as he seems to be getting sicker every week, so on top of the leaking roof, I’m trying to make sure my dad gets better, but it doesn’t seem likely. I glance up and I’m startled by a familiar face.
“Your highness.” I try to bow but she holds up her hand to stop me.
“Please, no need to kneel.” She smiles at me, and my heart is beating so fast I’m afraid it’s gonna burst.
“I came over because this seems like a great place to get a delicious dessert.” I look at her but quickly compose myself.
“Of course, take anything you’d like.”
She looks at me like I’m crazy.
“I hope you know that I intend to pay for it.”
I’m about to tell her that I’m fine with giver her one when she interrupts me.
“There is no way you are gonna talk me out of this.” She smiles at me.
“Of course, your highness.”
“Please, call me Bella.”
Her last words just about give me a heart attack.
Bella’s P.O.V
“Please call me Bella.” I nearly roll my eyes at my last statement. What is wrong with me. I don’t even know him, and I’m telling him my name.
“That’s extremely kind of you…Bella. My name is Dylan.”
I smiled at him.
“Well it nice to meet you.”
I wanted to invite him to the Ball, but thought that would seem silly, unless… unless I put out invitations to the whole village.
“I’ll let my parents know that I found a dessert for the ball.” I look at Dylan as I say this, I can see the shook and surprise on his face.
“M-my dessert at your ball?”
I laughed and nodded my head.
“Well I should get going, but I’ll see you around.” I walk away, but I look back once, and he still seems to be in shock. I smile and turn around and walk back to the palace.
Back at the palace.
“What do you mean, send an invitation to the entire village. They are not royal.”
My mom is pacing back and forth in the dining hall. I glance up at the chandelier that is hanging from the ceiling. I glance back at my mom.
“What’s royale got to do with anything? If I’m to be queen, I think the “commoners” should get to know me and I them.”
I make quotations with my fingers as I say commoners. I’ve never liked the word it made me seem like a snobby, spoiled royal, who doesn’t care for the people below me. I look back at my mom who for once seems speechless. She twists her lips together and takes a deep breath.
“I will think about it.” I’m about to jump with joy, but she not done. “But know that if I say no, we will have the ball, and I don’t care if you wear a fake smile all night, you will act like a proper royal. Understand?”
I nod and try not to show my disappointment. As soon as she’s out of sight, I slouch in my chair.
“At least she’s thinking about it.” I say to myself.
