I wasn't even that eager to get into Crew's car after school.
That's what I told myself, anyway. I was just tired and my feet hurt and the fastest way home happened to involve his passenger seat. That was all it was.
Ruby and Cain were standing near the entrance when I was walking out and I spotted them before Ruby spotted me, which meant I got to watch her see me, smile, and wave from across the parking lot like we were acquaintances. Like we were two people who recognized each other from somewhere.
I stood there for a second in my own head thinking, are we waving now? Is that what we're doing?
