Summer's Pov
One hour.
One full hour of Ruby and Cain on that video call and I lay on my side of the bed staring at the wall like a person who had made several poor decisions that led to this exact moment.
Cain saying things I absolutely did not need to hear. Ruby making sounds she absolutely did not need to make within three feet of me. I pulled my pillow over my head and thought about the periodic table. Then projectile motion. Then the entire plot of a book I'd read two years ago. Then I started mentally reciting French vocabulary because I was desperate.
