As graduation loomed closer, the future became more uncertain. Colleges sent out acceptance letters, and with them came the reality that soon, everything would change.
Maya had applied to an art school out of state, something she hadn’t even considered until Jayden had encouraged her to go after her dreams. Jayden, on the other hand, had been scouted by several universities for basketball, and he knew that a sports scholarship could be his ticket to something bigger.
They were both excited about what lay ahead, but the thought of being apart weighed on them. One evening, after an exhausting day of practice and final exams, Jayden sat in his room staring at a map, the distance between their potential schools staring back at him.
When he called Maya that night, his voice was tense. “What if we don’t make it, Maya? What if the distance is too much?”
Maya was silent for a moment before she answered. “We’ll find a way, Jayden. We always do. And no matter what happens, I’m not giving up on us.”
Jayden smiled despite his fears. “Neither am I.”
And so, they made a pact. They would support each other’s dreams, no matter where they took them. They promised to visit each other on weekends, call and text every day, and above all, keep believing in what they had.
