Jayden stared at his phone, the weight of Maya’s message hitting him like a punch to the gut. He hadn’t seen it coming—not from her. After everything they had been through, the idea that she was doubting their relationship broke something inside him.
Without thinking, he grabbed his keys and drove to her house.
When she opened the door, her eyes were red, as though she’d been crying. Jayden’s heart clenched. He stepped inside, pulling her into a hug before she could protest.
“I don’t care what people think,” he said, his voice raw. “I care about you, Maya. I don’t want to lose you because of all this noise.”
Maya pulled back, her expression conflicted. “It’s not just the noise, Jayden. It’s… everything. I don’t fit into your world. People don’t get why we’re together.”
“I don’t care about that,” Jayden insisted, cupping her face gently. “I care about us.”
Tears welled in Maya’s eyes. “But I do, Jayden. It’s hard. I feel like I’m always on the outside looking in. And I don’t want you to have to choose between me and your friends, or your life.”
Jayden’s chest tightened. “I don’t have to choose. You’re part of my life now.”
Maya looked up at him, her voice barely a whisper. “Are you sure?”
Jayden nodded, his gaze never leaving hers. “I’m sure.”
In that moment, they both realized that love wasn’t always about grand gestures or perfect harmony. Sometimes, love was about choosing each other despite the noise, despite the doubts, despite the world around them.
And for Jayden and Maya, that choice was all that mattered.
