Chapter 18

1085 Words
Ivy's POV The room stood frozen, the silence so thick it felt like a physical weight pressing against my chest. I fought hard to maintain my balance and composure. Selena’s face had gone pale, her earlier arrogance slowly bleeding out as her eyes flickered from the Alpha to me and back again. For a moment, she didn’t say a word—she didn’t need to. The crack in her mask was enough. She thought that just by being the Alpha's daughter, her words mattered more than others. But she had no idea that the Alpha was unjust, and wouldn't favor her just because she was his daughter. Meanwhile, my wrist throbbed in dull, sharp waves. I tried to adjust my grip on it, tried not to look weak, but it was hard to pretend I wasn’t still trembling inside. I could feel my guts failing me. My gaze stayed locked on the Alpha, willing him to see the truth, begging the goddess silently that—for once—someone would believe me, I couldn't stand Selena's bitchiness, just because she was the Alpha's daughter. The Alpha shifted his gaze toward the triplets. His expression remained calm but stern, but there was a storm simmering just beneath the surface. “Did either of you see anything? If you did, come forth and speak, only then can we determine the truth from the lie” he asked, his voice cutting cleanly through the thick silence. Kiernan’s jaw flexed as he folded his arms across his broad chest. His cold eyes never left Selena. “We came in at the end,” he said. “We didn’t see it happen. But Ivy denied it right away. And the maid confirmed what really happened.” Ronan’s posture was more tense, his brows furrowed as if trying to piece everything together. His voice, when he finally spoke, was softer but heavier, weighted with suspicion. “Selena, for the last time” he said, slowly, his tone unreadable, “did you lie? Just to get Ivy in trouble? Just to watch her get executed?” Selena stiffened like she’d been struck. Her lip curled in disgust, eyes flashing. “Why are you all acting like I’m the villain here? I didn't do anything, I already told you what happened, she tried to attack me, if not for the quick intervention, I could've died” she hissed. “why does everybody suddenly think I'm lying? Why are you taking her words over mine? She’s merely an omega. And this one–A maid. Their words shouldn’t carry more weight than mine! I'm the Alpha's daughter” Her voice cracked at the edges—just barely, but enough. It was the first sign of fear I’d seen in her, and I clung to it like a lifeline. The Alpha’s gaze turned sharp as blades. “Every member of this pack matters,” he said, the warning in his tone unmistakable. “Don’t forget that again.” My chest tightened. It felt like validation. Just a little. Just enough to breathe again. Then his attention turned back to me, his eyes dropping to where I still clutched my wrist close to my body. “You’re injured,” he said evenly, but his voice softened by a fraction. “How did that happen?” I hesitated—not because I didn’t know the answer, but because I wasn’t sure what saying it out loud would lead to. Would they believe it? Would saying it somehow bring more trouble down on me? But I was done being silent. “She pushed me,” I said finally, my voice steady despite the pain. “I didn’t fight back. I didn’t even touch her.” Whispers stirred across the room like ripples in still water. I could hear them—those same people who had screamed for my punishment now murmuring in confusion, maybe even guilt. Selena’s nails dug into her palms, her eyes wide with disbelief. “She’s lying!” she shrieked, her voice rising. “She’s just trying to turn everyone against me! She’s playing the victim!” No one moved. No one defended her. The Alpha didn’t flinch. He stared at her with a look that made even me shiver. “Enough,” he said. The word fell like thunder. Final. Uncompromising. He turned to two warriors standing near the entrance. “Take Selena to the holding cells,” he ordered, his voice like iron. “Until I decide what to do.” Time stopped. For a moment, no one moved. Not even Selena. Then, as the reality of his words sank in, she let out a strangled sound—something between a laugh and a sob. “You’re joking,” she whispered. “You can’t be serious. You’re sending me to the cells? Me? Your daughter? You can't really be serious father.” The Alpha didn’t answer. He didn’t have to. His silence was the answer. The warriors approached her. She stepped back instinctively, panic crawling up her throat as her confident mask shattered completely. “You can’t do this!” she screamed, jerking away from their grasp. “I’m your daughter! I’m supposed to be your Luna! You promised me!” Her voice was desperate now, hysterical even, as one of the warriors grabbed her arm. She kicked and fought like a cornered animal. “Let go of me! I didn’t do anything wrong! She’s lying! They’re all lying!” Her shrieks echoed off the walls as they dragged her toward the exit. Her hair fell from its perfect style, her clothes wrinkled from the scuffle. The mighty, untouchable Selena suddenly looked very small. And the Alpha never once looked at her. His eyes were on me. “Come with me,” he said. I blinked. My heart jumped painfully in my chest. I didn’t know if this was good or bad. I didn’t know if I was walking into comfort or another trial. But I nodded and followed, each step forward feeling like a shift in the ground beneath my feet. As I left the room behind me, the weight of dozens of eyes followed. Some curious. Some ashamed. And some still doubting. But for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t walking away in disgrace. I didn’t know where the Alpha was taking me. I didn’t know what he was going to say. But something had changed. And somehow, I knew—my fate had just been rewritten. ---
