The train stops at Beccles station. I’m in a daze. I feel weak. It’s as if someone had given me a blow to the head with a stale loaf of bread. Besides, I’m disappointed, I have to admit. I was hoping for Rosie or Jacky to show up via call or text, but nothing. Obviously, they haven’t already forgotten me but we all live busy lives... I was only a parenthesis in theirs. A funny parenthesis, my goodness. By now, the lunch organized at Jeffrey and Elena’s must be over. I’d like to know how it went. An inner voice cries out to me: “You just had to stay! Why did you want to return so soon? It’s true… Nothing awaits me here. My stay wasn’t originally supposed to be so short. Why do we act inexplicably? But now I think about it, that’s all well and good, how am I going to get back to Wheatacre?
