FREYA The dining hall was brighter than I expected at that hour, sunlight spilling through tall windows and pooling across the long wooden table. The room smelled of roasted meat and fresh bread, warm and inviting, yet all I felt was the knot tightening in my stomach. I lingered for a moment at the doorway, bracing myself.
