Chapter 7Rowan looked out the hotel door peephole for the third time in the past ten minutes. She was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, but it still felt too exposing. Maybe a suit jacket would act as armor? She added it to her shoulders, but when it felt too bulky, she tossed it aside. She’d finally settled on the one feminine collared shirt she’d brought with her, the plaid one that Wanda had liked, and figured it would be fine. It wasn’t as if she was truly hiding anymore—if she ever really had been—but she had to get out of the hotel room. After camping out here all Saturday, with room service and surfing TV channels, and dreading the worst from her family, no one had come by to see her. She was, for all intents and purposes, alone.
