I had woken up ages ago but I still remained in bed, lying curled up under the covers next to the wall and my back facing the room. I could hear Theo moving around as if I wasn't here. I was. I just couldn't bring myself to care or to move. I was a mess and that was the truth but I didn't have it in me to do anything about it. My mind was in a state of complete turmoil. My waking minuets spent thinking of all the lives I took so easily, one by one I took them out just plucked them out of existence. There was no mercy in what I did, it wasn't like I gave them a quick death, instead I dragged it out, drank them try and them to suffer. They didn't die at the hands of a killer; they succumbed to the wounds inflicted.
The room was quiet, it was just me and Theo I could hear him hastily shuffling around looking for something. He could've easily been silent but he wasn't he was moving like a human, shuffling one stop to another.
We weren't in his room. He had been staying here with me since the first night he had brought me to clean me up after the blood bath. I haven't left this room since. Theo had been staying with me here since, I don't know how long we we've been here, there are piles of clothes accumulating in here and if that's anything to go by on id say we've been here for some time. My days and nights have all begun to merge into one.
Theo was in a rush, he's a mess moving from one stop to another searching the room fro something. I could hear him shuffling about he wasn't using vampire speed to keep quiet it was as if he had forgotten how to move like a vampire, they way he fumbled he sounded almost human.
Maybe he was doing it for my benefit, to let me know he was still here, the thought flickered in and out just as fast, I could no longer sense his precise, not that I told him, when I discovered this I gave up. Maybe it was because he couldn't be arsed.
I picked up on another presence; my ears perked honing in on him. He wasn't threading as lightly as Theo would. I could hear him coming towards the room. He was searching for something or someone. I could sense it.
I remain in my spot motionless.
"Theo?" The new coming asked coming to a stop.
Theo stopped n his tracks he his movements came to a halt. "Adam?" Theo asked unsure, I was surprised he hadn't heard him coming. "Did you just get here?" I could hear the scepticism in his voice.
"No, I got here last night, actually." He said with a light chuckle. "I would've come by but I had received strict order from your staff that you were not to be disturbed."
A moment passed between them, I could sense Theo's hesitation, and I could feel his apprehension. His guards were up; I wonder who this Adam guy was. I was certain I never had met him before but he felt familiar, I couldn't quiet put my finger on it. He had piqued my interest for the first time in a while but I didn't have it in me to do something about it. I remained in my position on the bed, facing the wall.
"What's going on here?" Adam asked breaking the silence and bringing me out of my head. "Last night I was escorted straight to my room. You barely have any staff around here."
`I remained still, in my spot I could feel this presence close, and he was at the threshold of the room.
"What are you doing in here?" He asks.
I could hear Theo rummaging through the pile in the room.
"I went by your room and it's a wreck. It took me a while to find you here."
Theo remained quiet for a moment no doubt mulling over his answer before he spoke. "You've seen the state of my room, this is only temporary."
My arms were beginning to fall asleep from being pressed under me. I turned on my other side facing the room; the duvet still covered me, shielding me away from the world. I could still see Adam from where I lay but he couldn't see me. He wasn't fully in the room, still at the threshold.
"You go from one shack to another," Adam said taking in the room. "There are plenty of rooms more fitting yet you pick this one."
I watch Theo shrug as he searched the wardrobe. He slipped off his tee shift and dropped it onto the pile by the wardrobe as he slipped on a new freshly pressed shirt.
"Look at the state of your room, what happened to your staff." Adam asked challenging Theo.
` Theo looked around really taking in his surroundings, sighing he rubbed his hand over his face. "I need to hire new staff."
"What happened to your old staff?" He pressed.
"They were let go of." Theo answered after a brief moment of silence.
Adam nodded, Theo's back was still to me, and it was as if he was trying to block me from his friend.
"I heard something along those lines."
"Oh really"? I could almost see Theo no doubt raising his eyebrows. "What else have you heard?"
"Rumour has it you kidnapped a human."
Theo's back tensed but he remained as he was, keeping up the unfazed façade. "Rumour had it you were in Asia and you heard that from there?" Theo's tone was becoming defensive. His posture relaxed but not fast enough as Adam stepped further into the room, his eyes flickered over Theo's shoulder making eye contact with me.
I wasn't sure if he seen me or not, but a smile broke out across Adam's face.
"You've been naughty," he said with a grin, walking past Theo and over to the bed. I remained where I was. Whatever threat he posed I could not feel it nor did I care.
His dark brown eyes lit up as he took me in, he was smiling ear to ear.
"So the rumours are true," Adam concluded.
"Who else knows?"
"Word's getting around."
"Great," Theo muttered.
"She's not human," Adam said c*****g his head, he still and taken his eye off of me and I refused to look away first.
"No, she's not anymore."
"You changed her against her will," There now was anger in his eyes as he looked over at Theo to deny it.
Theo didn't have to say anything his reluctance to speak spoke volumes.
"Do you know how much trouble there's going to be?"
"I know," Theo snapped, showing his clothe into his bag. "My mother's breathing down my neck." He was distracted; I sat up crossing my legs under me, now watching Theo.
Something was up.
Theo was now shoving more things into his bag. He stopped turning around his eyes found mine. He crossed the room in large strides, taking a seat on the bed. He turned to face Adam. "How long will you be staying?"
"I haven't decided yet."
Theo took in his friend's answer, "I need you to stay here keep an eye on Genevieve."
You're leaving? I wanted to ask but I was just looking at him. I had his attention now.
"Where are you going?" Adam asked.
"I need to do damage control" He said without taking his eyes off of me. "I'll be back soon," he now said to me. "I'll see you soon." He cupped my face as he pressed a kiss onto my forehead and pulled away picking his bag up with him.
He was already walking out the door, Adam hadn't agreed nor had he said no but he was leaving me with him, without confirmation.
"What's wrong with her?" Adam asked, he was taking me, in I could feel him analysing me as they went over me. "How long has she been like this?"
Theo stopped outside the room; he was now looking at me, taking in my appearance. "Nine days."
"You're going to leave her like this?" He asked his tone incredulous.
"I can't take her with me, in this state." He looked at his friend. "They're going to tear her apart."
Adam didn't argue with Theo, his point had been valid. Theo's eyes met mine once more, a look of remorse flashed across them but it was gone before he walked away, his face cold and calculated. He had a world class poker face.
Adam turned to me; he crouched down before me at eye level. He gently brushed his knuckles over my cheek looking me in the eye. "What has he done to you?" He asked in a soft whisper.
