FRIENDS AND FOES

LOUISE's POV // Present.

After two weeks in her new school, Louise still found herself still adjusting, but unlike the first week which she found really hard. Especially their language.

Louise was on her way to the cafeteria together with some of her classmates when she bumped into someone. When she looked up, she saw Zarrina and Harriet and instantly, her face lits up.

"Would you guys mind if we steal her from you for a moment?" Harriet asked. Smiling so sweetly, dimples popping out. Louise's classmates shriek as Harriet smiles at them. Who wouldn't though? She looks so adorable when she smiles that everyone melts.

"Of course. We'll see you later, Louise". After they exchanged their goodbyes, Harriet, Zarrina and Louise were left alone standing at the cafeteria's entrance.

"So, where to?" Zarri asked them. Both just shrugged their shoulders looking at her, making Zarrina sigh.

"I've actually got a class for the next thirty minutes, so I can't go and eat outside", Zarrina continued.

When everyone agreed to just stay and eat at the school's cafeteria, they finally entered and immediately sat at the available table near the window.

"You two order our food, I'll just watch our table for us" Zarrina offered as Harriet and Louise nodded their heads and they got up from their seats.

"Oh, add a strawberry smoothie for me please!" Zarrina shouted at the two, but because it was loud enough, almost half of the students in the cafeteria turned their heads towards them, but Zarri just shrugged her shoulders and proceeded to play with her phone while waiting for the two to come back with their order

Back at the counter, Harriet and Louise were giggling at what had just happened.

"She's really crazy at times" Louise beamed, smiling while eyeing out the menu.

"Yeah, she's amazing" Harriet added, amusement with a hint of proudness was visible in her tone. Making Louise smile softly

"What do you fancy eating? I think I'll be having sinigang na lechon kawali. This yang chow fried rice sounds delicious too, so I'll have that, a double chocolate frappe and an iced lemonade. How about you?" Louise was still scanning the menu, when she realized that Harriet was being quiet. She turned to look at her, only to see her smiling amusingly at her.

"What? I'm hungry" she defended

Harriet chuckled before she too enumerated her and Zarrina's orders. After hanging out with them for almost a month now, Louise found out that Harriet likes to eat healthy foods, while Zarrina only eats non-pork dishes because she has an Islamic bloodline. And Neesha, well, she eats almost everything.

Once they placed their orders- Harriet got herself a Caesar's salad with a side of mayonnaise, a tuna sandwich and a glass of lemonade. While she ordered chicken biryani, two brownies and a strawberry smoothie for Zarrina and she added three bottles of water- they walked back to their table. But before they could finally get there, four girls blocked their way.

"Hey, Ace! How are you?" The girl in a white shirt and an above-the-knee skirt spoke. Louise fought the urge to raise her eyebrows.

She then remembers that they were from one of her classes. What was her name again? Was it Katie or Kathy?

She then heard Harriet beside her speaking to the girl in front of them.

"Oh, hey Olivia. I'm doing well, you?"

Oh, Olivia. Louise corrected, but she remained quiet beside Harriet.

"I'm fine, we were just about to take our orders. Mind if we share a table with you?" Olivia gave her most flirtatious smile, while pinching the hem of Harriet's shirt. And it made Louise's mood sour.

However, Harriet moved back a bit and cleared her throat before responding, much to Louise's liking.

"Oh, uhm, sorry but our table is already full. Maybe some other time?" and that made Olivia lose her smile. Meanwhile, Louise raised an eyebrow when Olivia eyed her from head to foot but then quickly plastered on a smile, although it was quite obvious that it was fake. Louise wanted to roll her eyes.

"Okay, next time then" Harriet just nodded before she pulled Louise back to their table.

Once they came back, Louise was rather quiet. And it didn't go unnoticed by both Zarrina and Harriet. Thankfully, Zarrina took pity on her and was the one to break the ice.

"Was she bothering you again?"

"No, she just asked if she could sit with us but I said no" Harriet explained.

"Good, because we're already full."

The duo continued conversing randomly, Zarrina still trying to ease out the tension until their food arrives.

All three ate quietly, only speaking when someone asks. Once they were done, they cleaned their table before they stood up and left the cafeteria. When they were outside, Zarrina looked at them both before heaving a deep sigh.

"I still have my last lecture for today, so I guess I'll see you both back at the complex?" Harriet and Louise hummed before they bid her good-bye.

Harriet and Louise walked towards their respective buildings quietly. They still feel the tension between them, both not knowing why. But it was Louise who broke the silence this time.

"Uhm, you should go or you'll be late for your lecture. I'll just go to the rest room for a moment and refreshen"

Harriet just stared at her, eyes slowly blinking. And before she could open her mouth, Louise walked away and Harriet just stood there, confused as she watched Louise's retreating back.

When she reached the girl's rest room, Louise immediately went to the sink to wash her burning face. She was embarrassed about her actions.

"What the heck is wrong with you, Louise?!" Slapping her face, she continued to wash it until she finally calmed down and dried her face off with a tissue.

When Louise was about to go inside the cubicle, she heard the door open. She turned around to see who it was, and her eyes widened. It was Olivia, and she was glaring at her.

"You! Who are you? And why are you with my Ace?"

Her Ace? Louise raised an eyebrow. Confused as to why this girl was attacking her

"Ace is mine. Do you hear me? So stay away from her or else-"

"Or else what?" Louise folded her arms on her chest. She's not backing out, no way.

Olivia scoffed and put her hand on her hips. Eyeing her again from head to foot, as she smirks

"You're pretty, but not pretty enough that Ace will take notice of you". Her eyes now glaring at her.

"So don't let your hopes get high. She is mine, and she likes me back. I don't share what's mine"

Louise tilted her head, trying to examine the person claiming Harriet to be hers.

She is beautiful, Louise is gonna give it to her. She's tall, maybe three inches taller than her. Olivia has a nice body too, and her skin is fair. And she has long straight black hair. But why do I feel like she's not Harriet's type?

Louise has only been with Harriet for almost a month, so she doesn't know much about her. But she's been very attentive to her. Harriet likes to enjoy peaceful surroundings. She's very calm and reserved. She's very kind and shy at times, but overall friendly and is the type who always offers you a smile. Harriet also balances her two friends, Zarrina and Neesha.

Zarrina is the quiet one. Who only talks when necessary and when she's in the mood. But she's great at listening and she's crazy at times. Especially when she's comfortable around someone. While Neesha, she's a people person. She's very sociable and likes to mingle with everyone. She makes everyone around her feel included. And Harriet, she falls in the middle. She has a neutral personality that balances them both.

And looking at this girl right now, Louise could easily confirm. Yup, definitely not her type.

"You're new here, aren't you? If you want to be on my good side, stay away from her. Do you understand?"

“What if I don't?” Louise tilted her head, a teasing smile was playing on her lips. Gaining a murderous look from Olivia

“I mean, we go to the same apartment building. We're neighbors, after all. We go out together, and always eat together.”

Crossing her arms on her chest, Louise shrugged and smiled innocently. And to add fuel to the flame, she added, “We also go and hang out in her room, and oh, her mum adores me.”

Louise smiled sweetly at her, while Olivia was fuming mad. Before Olivia could touch and hurt her, the bathroom door opened, revealing a confused Harriet.

Louise saw Olivia smirking at her, and before she could even react, Olivia started screaming and crying.

“Ouch! Ouch! Stop hurting me! I didn't do anything to you! Why are you hurting me?” She folds her arms on her chest, playing the victim's card.

Looking at Olivia, you will actually take pity on her as she cries and looks so scared. But she's fooling no one. Especially not Louise, who stared at her like she had lost her mind.

What the f**k?

“What are you up to?” Still confused, Louise looked at Harriet, who was still eyeing Olivia. When she sensed her looking at her, Harriet turned her gaze on her.

“Ace, help me! She's hurting me, Ace! I didn't do anything to her, she just attacked me out of nowhere!” Olivia looked like a lost puppy as she approached Harriet.

“Ace, help me. I'm hurt.” But as she was about to touch her, Harriet stepped back.

“Drop the act. I heard everything, Olivia.” Both Louise and Olivia were shocked as they stared at her. Uh-oh, someone's busted

“No, no, Ace. She started it first! She pushed me”

But Harriet wasn't having any of it, and it made Louise smile in victory.

“Shut it. I was already outside the moment you followed her here, and I heard everything you said” Louise was in awe at how calm Harriet was when she was talking, although there was a hint of warning in her tone.

“You don't owe me, Olivia. And you know that. I don't like you that way, so stop spreading lies.” Olivia was gaping at her, she couldn't believe Ace took the other girl's side more than hers.

Olivia looked at Louise. Who is she anyway? She thought spitefully

“And please, if you say one more word to her or against her and do something that will hurt her, you won't like me very much” Olivia was still in shock as Harriet glared at her, before she grabbed Louise by her hand and they walked outside.

Louise turned to look at Olivia. She was glaring at her, but Louise couldn't care less as Harriet dragged her away from that woman.

Louise was smiling as they walked outside. Her chest was feeling warm. She chose my side more than hers. That's what she gets for lying.

“Are you okay? Did she hurt you?” Harriet asked her as they were walking towards Louise's building. She was checking Louise to see if there were any cuts or bruises.

“No, I'm fine. Thank you” Harriet sighed in relief.

“Tell me if she'll bother you again.”

“Don't worry, I can handle myself” Then Louise showed Harriet her arm flexing, making the latter chuckle.

They were so busy talking that they almost went past Louise's lecture room if not because of her classmates poking their heads outside. Louise and Harriet shook their heads at how her classmates had acted. “This is me, I guess”. Louise pointed out her classroom.

Harriet hummed, and reached out to ruffle her hair. “I'll see you later then.”

Louise voiced out a small later and with last one look and a soft smile, she went inside her lecture hall. Harriet stood for a second staring at her before she walked back and went to the parking lot to go home

As for Louise, she spent her afternoon class being an active, giggly student. Why? Well, only Louise knows why.
