Dana and Gail arrived back at the mansion around nine o’clock. The building was a beacon lit from the eves to the ground. Two uniformed police officers stood at either end of the building to ensure Dana’s safety.
“I thought you said it was just a stuffed bear,” said Dana.
“Detective Reed isn’t taking any chances,” said Gail.
The security detail helped them from the limo. Ray opened the front door, Ace at attention beside him.
“Good evening, detective,” said Dana.
“Please call me Ray.”
“I appreciate the effort, but is all of this really necessary?”
“Yes,” said Ray, leaving no room for argument.
Dana shrugged.
