I smirked, watching the flicker of anger in Gideon's eyes. He always tried to stay calm, to look in control—but I knew him too well. Beneath that still surface, a storm was already raging.
Did he really think I’d walk away after everything he did?
No.
I was done playing the quiet one, done staying in the shadows while he acted like the king of the world. I was back now, and he understood exactly what that meant.
His jaw was tight, voice sharp when he spoke. “Whatever plan you're cooking up, keep it far from me. Because if this turns into something bigger, I promise—it won’t end well for you.”
I chuckled, stepping closer, crushing a dry leaf beneath my shoe. “Is that a warning, Gideon? You really think I’m afraid of you?”
