Chapter Sixteen Evan didn’t get a chance to finish the punishment. Liza left the apartment for Cynthia’s, computer and all, before Evan woke the next day. She didn’t return to the gallery until the following Wednesday, her absence making it clear that something was amiss. “You want to get the rest of your things, I’m getting tired of bumping into them,” Evan said, when she finally walked into his office Wednesday morning. “I’ll have them out by Friday,” she said. “Good enough.” Any affection Evan might have once felt for her had shriveled up, tossed out as easily as a wad of trash.
