Chapter 2: Coming home

Daniel POV:

I came home 2 weeks ago to help my mom with my baby sister Jenny. Jenny was diagnosed with leukemia last month and mom was worried about paying bills. I got a job as a professor at the local college teaching in the pastry arts. I’ve always loved to bake. My mom and grandma taught me at a very young age how to bake. Grandma always said the way to the heart is with yummy goodness and every man should learn to bake for his lady when she wants chocolate cake. My dad died in a car wreck when Jenny was 4 and I was 12, so it was always my grandma, mom, Jenny and I. I love these strong women in my life and I strive to be the man they raised me to be. Jenny is 16 and it kills me to see her in so much pain. She is the sweetest, genuine, amazing soul and I will do anything to help her get better. She just started her chemo and her hair started to fall out. We are going to have a head shaving party in two days to show her our support. Mom, grandma, myself and my 3 best friends are all going to shave Jenny’s head and then she is going to shave all of ours. “Bro, I am so glad you finally moved back. It sucks that the reason you are back, but I’m glad you are home.” That was Brandon, we’ve been neighbors and best friends since birth. Jenny is like his little sister too. “I am kinda excited to shave my head though. Jenny is going to be so surprised that we are all doing this on Sunday after family dinner.” My cousin Jeremy slaps me on the back and says “let’s get to the tap before the pool tables get occupied. I want to find a cute guy before I shave all this beautiful hair off and he can grab it by the handful! Plus Sarah is working tonight, she is excited to see her 3rd favorite relative, behind Jenny and myself of course” Brandon and I full on belly laugh at his enthusiasm. He always can make you smile, even when you don’t want to.

When we got to the tap, I heard Sarah squeal and run around the bar. She immediately wrapped me up in one of the tightest hugs and I couldn’t help but smile. “I made sure that one of the pool tables was available for you guys. It will pick up in about an hour right before the band starts. Bucket of beer for you guys?” “Ah, cousin you know us well. When do you get off, so you can join us?” “2 hours-ish, once the band goes on and the closers get here. You might get to meet some of my favorite coworkers tonight. Josie said the “tripod” will be out in full force tonight. She is like the little sister I never had. I look out for her when we work together. She and her friend Megan both actually. Tim can handle his own. They are the tripod. All three of them have all the guys attention.” “Ooh sis tell me more of this Tim and why haven’t you introduced me yet.” “Down boy, you will meet them all in good time, but more than likely, you will meet them tonight. They just finished their finals and are ready to party.” “Ok boys let’s go play some pool and wait for the band to start then Sarah will join us and hopefully her hot friends will too” Brandon was ready to lose his money to me in pool. He didn’t know it yet, but he never beats me.

Jeremy racked the balls while I chalked my stick ready to let Brandon break. It would probably be his only shot in the game because Jeremy and I were excellent pool players. We played 2 rounds of pool and the band was about to start. I took a look around the bar and saw the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on. She had wavy strawberry blonde hair, the cutest button nose that I just wanted to kiss, the deepest emerald green eyes and the cutest round face. She was short. Much shorter than the couple that she was with. And the most delectable hourglass figure. I raked my eyes up and down her body lingering on her neck. Wondering what it would taste like. God she was beautiful. I turned to laugh at the dumb dad joke that Jeremy just said. He was the king of those. As I turned to take a drink of my beer she made eye contact with me and I winked at her. Oh s**t. Here she comes.
