After stopping for breakfast at a diner in New Jersey, we headed to Atlantic City. The weather was overcast, but that didn’t stop us from walking along the boardwalk. We also dipped into one of the casinos and played a few slot machines. Carmen lost twenty dollars and I won fifty that I promptly spent on a huge meal for us at one of the casino buffets before we called it a day and headed home. “Don’t forget about brunch Sunday with me, my mom, and Paul,” I said as I pulled my car to a stop in front of her apartment building. She made a face. “Come on, Carmen. I can’t go by myself. I need you there for moral support.” “Uh, I just ditched work to be with you today. How much more moral support can I give?” “We’re family. We’re supposed to help each other.” “All I see is me helping you.
