Chapter 6 A week after my dinner with Douglas, I decided to surprise my mother by showing up at her house Saturday morning and taking her out for breakfast. When I saw her Subaru parked in the driveway and no sign of Paul’s BMW, I breathed a sigh of relief. Doing drive-bys of my mother’s house to make sure she was home alone wasn’t something I enjoyed, but I just couldn’t take the chance of running into Paul. Plus, I didn’t want her to think I had an issue with her boyfriend even though I did.
