Chapter 23 I woke up the next morning back in the little built-in bed in my grandmother's loft. The minute I opened my eyes, I saw Lake Superior through my little window. And I could smell waffles baking on the waffle iron down in the kitchen. I swung my legs out of bed and once again recoiled at the cold touch of the wood on the bottoms of my bare feet.
