Chapter 9
Monday afternoon, Milo, Harper, and the six kids who volunteered to perform at the annual fundraising gala met for the first time. They needed to assess each teen’s skills and how comfortable they were on stage. Four of the kids he’d already met at Jam Night. Daria was a seventeen-year-old former runaway, who happened to be a decent keyboard player. Madison, an eighteen-year-old student, who came to Tomorrow House when her parents kicked her out for being pregnant at fifteen, was a really talented singer. Harper thought she had the voice of an angel and the vocabulary of a long-haul truck driver. Neil was nineteen and was homeless for a while after his parents tossed him out of the house when he came out to them as a sophomore in high school. Parker was twenty and HIV positive.
