Driving the beat-up farm pickup made Harper chuckle every time he climbed behind the wheel. The contrast between the fifteen-year-old, ginormous Chevy truck and the sporty little Audi he left in Colorado was pretty staggering. Harper picked up his mother and drove to the cancer center for her treatment. On the way home, Charlotte pressed him to talk about their issues while she held him captive in the truck, starting with Karen Thornton.
“How is she? I’m so sorry I upset her. If I’d known she’d be at Tomorrow House, I would have stayed away. Meg says Rob and Ben would be willing to see me, but Mrs. T was special. I could always talk to her, until we were outed anyway.”
