Lucas paid the cab driver, grabbed his bag, and climbed out of the taxi. Glad to be off the damn plane, he couldn’t figure out how Harper survived the last six weeks. All the travel left his partner tired to the point of exhaustion but at least the book was doing well and Harper had drawn good crowds at the book signings and other events. It was funny to hear the people in Ridgefield after Harper’s first television appearance. The town buzzed with the news that ‘the queer Ellison kid’ had become a famous author. Curious Cat Books, the tiny independent bookstore in town, installed a huge banner in the window proclaiming ‘Ridgefield’s Own, Scott Harper’ and proudly displayed all his books.
