Dave was really doing well and with time he got a place for himself and his sister. He was very able to afford a car too. Mr Owen, who was disappointed in him before, became even more proud. Dave, at this point, Tessy and Dave are being forced into a relationship they both didn’t approve of. Due to the fact that Dave didn’t want to go against Mr Owens or disappoint him, he saw this as a reward to Mr Owen for all he had done for him, rather than a painful occurrence. One thing about Dave is that he would always turn his disappointment or negativity into something great, positive and beneficial for himself. He was known as a jovial child and had sworn that he wouldn’t let anything stop him from being that good and dedicated man.
Oh “I wish my parents were here to see what I have made for myself", he lamented.
Dave and Tessy had no other option than to put a facade to the situation.Dave tried to make himself believe he was in love with Tessy, even with the amount of hatred he had in his heart towards her.
Knock!knock!!knock!!!, come in. Dave said as he welcomed the supposed stranger at the door of his office. It was Tessy.
Oh you! He said.
What have you come here for and I thought you weren’t allowed to meet me till it was our wedding day. I am only doing you a favor but accepting these false accusations you laid on me and I am doing this because of your father. Do not think I have any sort of feelings for you in any way and don’t think I would love you ever!
You and I clearly know I am not the one that impregnated you, but that is what it is. You have chosen to destroy my name.
Calm down! She yelled, “I am not in any way interested in your love. As a matter of fact, I don’t have any feeling or string attached to you, so don’t get your hopes high.
I only came here because my father asked me to do so. I don’t even want to see it either.He has asked you to follow me and we both go to the designer in charge of our wedding outfits.
“Okay, I have heard what you said. Let me finish up here or do you also want me to lose my job as well? Wait in the other office for me. I will be done soon.
Dave replied. Life was doing really fine but was still bothered about the false allegations that were laid upon him. He wondered if he should continue with this or just find out the truth about the pregnancy and why Tessy had blamed it on him.
He finally came to a conclusion that he was going to stick to the plan. He didn’t want to disappoint Mr Owen and at the same time he didn’t want to lose all that had been given to him.He decides to find out the truth in secret. Despite all these things happening, Mr Owen was still proud of Dave and he was very calm and able to warm to Dave, as he had proven himself capable of taking care of the duties in the office.
Dave was able to bag several deals with various companies. He once bagged a contract from a very wealthy business man in the city who hardly paid attention to any business offer given to him. He was quite strict when it came to choosing a business partner to work with, but he was quite pleased with Dave's presentation and he agreed to the business deal. Mr Owen, upon hearing this news, was very happy and he felt like a proud dad to him. He encouraged him to never relent in his work and continue at the pace he had started at.
Tessy, on the other hand, wasn’t ready to say anything and continued avoiding Dave. They both hardly came in contact with each other, but each time they did they would always end up not saying anything to each other. Seeing Tess's face only reminded him of his pain and he had sworn to do anything in his power to avoid her.
On a very calm Saturday morning, Mr Ownen had sent for Dave to come and see him. The atmosphere was tense as they sat down to talk.Dave was nervous and tense and couldn’t think what was about to happen again. Mr Owen immediately broke the silence with a cough or, rather, an attempt to clear his throat to speak.
He said
“Well, I would love to go straight to the point of the reason why I asked you to come”.
He continued say,
“Since the deed has been done, I have been thinking and I think I have come to a conclusion that I would love for you to marry my daughter. I would arrange a wedding for you so that you can take her in as your own.
Dave was too stunned to even speak. He wondered why he would think that he was capable of taking care of his daughter and loving her right and her child.
He wasn’t able to give a fast reply but then Mr Owne said to him.
“I don’t need you to tell me a yea or a no because my decision is final and that is all I have to say. You would also lose everything I have done for you if you refuse this offer I have made”, he said as he stood up to leave the room.
Dave was left there in shock and confusion about whether to go ahead and marry his daughter or run away with his sister. He was so lost in his thoughts and confused. He couldn’t come to a decision. He thought about how he was finally able to meet up with his sister's bills and how they were living fine. He was ready to sacrifice anything for his sister.On the other hand, he couldn’t really tell if this was what he wanted for himself.
“Maybe meeting Themis family was a bad idea from the start”. He started regretting a lot of things and wondered if life would have been different if his parents were alive. He was already tired of all the things and traumas himself and his sister had to face.
He went into his room and didn’t come out again for the rest of the day. He says they were lost in thought and suddenly slept off. His sister came to meet him after returning from her friend's place and was surprised to see him lying on the bed fast asleep. She tried waking him up but it felt like an impossible mission as he kept turning over and over, refusing to get up. After so many trials in waking him up, he finally gave in.
“Brother, why are you sleeping this way? What is the matter with you ?” Julie asked.
Don’t worry, my love, I’m fine, I’m just quite tired.“Dave replied”.
Well, let me go and make you something to eat., Julie replied as she left the room.
She was still quite sad and worried and she knew her brother too well to know when he was telling lies and is worried.
She decided not to disturb him too much or pester him to speak up. She had to let him come and tell her at his own convenient time.
30 minutes later and the food was ready, she served him his own and called out for him to come and have it for dinner.
They started eating and Julie could notice that Dave wasn't happy and was only acting. The whole scenario of the place wouldn’t let her mind rest because
She knew when her brother was being dull. She finally decided to let the cat out of the bag and say something finally.
“Brother please can you tell me what is wrong with you”?
“Please,”she pleaded.
He didn’t want her to speak any further or ask more questions and decided to tell her what had happened. She was so shocked to have heard the news. She knew her brother wouldn’t do this, but how could she make the people or the rest of the family believe it.
