Even a wolf with a smooth, powerful build could feel low simply because he didn’t know how to win a female’s affection.
Laura had no idea that the big gray wolf beside her had spent the entire night feeling dejected. For some reason,
after the White-Fur Wind passed that night, the snowfall eased noticeably, and sunlight finally returned.
Laura was no longer afraid.
But for reasons she herself couldn’t quite explain, she didn’t take the initiative to ask the big gray wolf to continue sleeping on the bed. Derek, harboring certain unspoken thoughts, also didn’t bring it up.
The two of them maintained the status quo in quiet, unspoken agreement.
Taking advantage of the improved weather, Laura decided to wash some of the animal skins at home. She had been here for over a month now. She wasn’t a neat freak, but she still felt uncomfortable not cleaning them.
Her method was simple—she dragged the animal skins outside, spread them over the snow, and rubbed dry snow over them. The snow would lift away the dirt, and after drying them in the sun, they would be clean again.
This was something a roommate from northern China had taught her. In her hometown, almost everyone owned mink coats, and they were cleaned this way.
Laura was washing the hides at the cave entrance, while Derek went out again. He wanted to hunt, but more importantly, he needed more crystal cores to recover his strength and heal his injured leg as soon as possible.
After the snow season ended, the beastlands would immediately become restless. He needed to recover early so he could secure enough food and protect both himself and his little wife.
Still, the big gray wolf wasn’t comfortable leaving Laura alone. He left behind his scent and a trace of his power—if anyone entered the area, he would sense it immediately.
So when Alex of the lion tribe appeared, Derek’s expression changed instantly. Carrying his prey, he rushed back at once.
Laura was standing face to face with a majestic lion.
He was enormous, tall and imposing, his mane flowing in the wind. His eyes were bright and sharp—both pupils a
brilliant gold, dazzling and beautiful, the kind that made one want to pluck them out and keep them.
So good-looking…
He probably wasn’t some random beast that attacked people, right?
Laura thought to herself.
But in Alex’s eyes, the scene was entirely different.
To him, Laura looked like a girl who had suffered greatly—her eyes glistening with tears, gazing at him with grievance and affection, as if seeing a lifeline at last. She stood frozen, too emotional to move.
Alex couldn’t help feeling pleased.
He liked seeing females admire him.
And he noticed—Laura had become prettier.
In the beastlands, strength and fullness were considered beautiful. The original Laura had been underfed, her face sallow and thin, her hair dry and brittle, her skin darkened from outdoor labor.
But now, after just one month, she had completely changed.
Her figure had filled out, her skin was fair and delicate, and her long hair was gathered into a small, unfamiliar bun
at the back of her head, giving her an indescribable charm.
She looked radiant—so much so that even Snowcloud, the most beautiful female in the tribe, would not outshine her standing beside her.
Alex’s thoughts stirred.
If it was this version of Laura…
being with him wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
After all—
she liked him, didn’t she?
With that thought, Alex confidently transformed into human form, struck what he thought was a perfect pose, and opened his arms, waiting for Laura to throw herself into them.
However—
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds…
Dozens of seconds passed.
The silence became painfully awkward.
Laura couldn’t help twitching the corner of her mouth.
What was this guy doing?
Absorbing the essence of the sun and moon?
She rubbed her arms in disgust, goosebumps rising, and spoke first.
“Hello. May I ask who you’re looking for?”
Another two seconds passed.
Laura saw disbelief spread across the man’s face. His expression, at that moment, reminded her of a husband
catching his wife cheating right in front of him.
Completely baffling.
“Laura, you’re pretending not to recognize me now? Don’t play hard to get. Do you think this will make me look
at you more?”
Laura: “……”
Perhaps the innocence on her face was too exaggerated. Alex finally lost his patience and ground out a sentence through clenched teeth.
“I’m Alex.”
Alex?
What—
the male lead?
Instead of throwing herself into his arms, Laura immediately took a step back in avoidance. For a moment, Alex
even felt as if he were some kind of filthy thing.
Laura looked at the man approaching her.
He was nearly 1.9 meters tall, with long golden hair, sharp features, and a pair of flirtatious eyes. His entire body
was packed with muscle, radiating strength and dominance.
Laura felt a wave of annoyance.
She had been living too comfortably lately—so much so that she almost forgot she had transmigrated into a novel.
This world still had its male and female leads.
“What do you want?”
Seeing that Laura no longer pretended to be confused, Alex’s expression turned mocking.
In his eyes, her earlier act of not recognizing him was just another female trick—playing pitiful to gain attention. Snowcloud liked doing that too.
After leaving her in this hellish place for over a month, it was normal for her to resent him.
Alex smugly analyzed the situation in his head, completely unaware that the person in front of him was no longer the same soul as before.
“That crippled wolf is probably dead already. Come back with me. You don’t have to stay in this damned place anymore. I’ll provide you with food. There’s nothing worth taking here—just leave.”
After saying that, Alex turned around and started to walk away.
However, a moment later, he slowly turned back—
Only to see that Laura hadn’t moved an inch.
After being thwarted again and again, the increasingly irritable lion finally lost his temper.
