In her heart, Laura secretly made up her mind—
Once the snow season ended, she would cook lots of delicious food, grow vegetables, and maybe even try cultivating millet. No matter what, she must never let her “fur baby” go hungry again.
Yes.
In Laura’s heart now, Derek was pretty much like the pet she was raising.
Although, on the outside, he was a majestic and imposing snow wolf…
On the inside, he was simply the most loyal, reliable dog.
He protected her unconditionally.
He listened to everything she said.
If she told him to go east, he would never go west.
If she told him to chase dogs, he would never chase chickens.
He was even more obedient than many large dogs.
God knew that Laura’s greatest dream had always been—
to buy a little house of her own
and raise a fur baby.
She never expected that one day she would transmigrate to another world…
quit her office-worker life early…
and actually achieve both dreams here:
a little home of her own
and a loyal “doggie”
Even though…
there were a few differences.
But with her naturally optimistic personality, Laura was still very satisfied.
Thinking this, she scooped Derek another bowl of bone soup — this one enriched with spiritual spring water.
She had to raise the big gray wolf strong and healthy—
so he could protect her well.
Derek accepted everything she gave him without hesitation. He didn’t quite understand why, but he could clearly feel it —
the way his little wife looked at him…
was full of affection.
He was clearly the strong one —
yet she always treated him like a cherished wolf pup.
But the wolf liked it very much.
If Laura had known…
she would’ve realized that if Derek currently had a tail…
it would have been wagging up to the sky.
After washing up as usual and getting ready to sleep, the peaceful night was suddenly shattered by a series of terrifying screams.
Laura froze mid-rinse.
“What was that sound?”
“It’s nothing. I’ll go take a look.”
Derek reassured her calmly. He immediately turned toward the entrance. His broad back and muscular build gave
Laura a faint sense of security.
He lifted the hide curtain blocking the wind.
Outside, snow was still falling.
A vast blanket of white stretched as far as the eye could see — the darkness so thick that even Derek could barely see through it. Even he rarely encountered such eerie weather.
But in order not to frighten Laura…
his expression remained completely calm.
“It’s fine. Go to sleep early. I’ll stand guard here.”
Standing at nearly two meters tall, broad-shouldered and strong, Derek’s solid figure did make Laura feel a little safer.
But very soon…
that fragile sense of security began to crumble.
Because outside, strange sounds began echoing through the night.
They sounded like the wind howling —
yet also like some ferocious beast shrieking.
The sounds came again and again…
each wave more terrifying than the last…
far scarier than the horror movies Laura once watched with her roommate.
At least with horror movies, she could still remind herself —
“It’s fake.”
But here…
she couldn’t lie to herself.
Laura’s face went pale in an instant.
She was terrified of ghosts.
Staring at the shadows cast on the wall by the firelight, shapes that normally looked completely ordinary suddenly seemed twisted and sinister.
The longer she stared, the more it felt as if those shadows were slowly turning into real figures…
opening blood-soaked jaws toward her—
ready to swallow her whole.
