IZABELLA I felt like I could finally let out a long breath of relief. Nicole and I arrived back at the house, both wearing matching grins and biting back bursts of relieved laughter. The fair was a success, to say the least, and compared to the anxious mood I’ve been in for the past day, I felt great. It felt like I’d really managed to make an impact today. I smiled a little, thinking of those kids, their smiles, and my conversations with their mothers. The grin remained plastered to my face. By my side, Nicole kept taking selfies of her face paint and playing with the deck of cards we were given. She tried to rope me into her shenanigans several times, but I waved her off playfully. We dismounted from the car and entered the house, where Filomena was waiting for us in the foyer.
