Sara looks from Shawn to Cassie not knowing what to say or do. She couldn’t believe that her sister was involved in killing her mate’s pack and little sister’s death. Cassie looked at her for sympathy but what she saw in Sara’s eyes was not sympathy. Cassie saw rage and confusion. She could feel the tears getting ready to start pouring out of her eyes. She refused to look weak in front of her Alpha or her Luna.
Shawn looked at the men standing at the door and motioned for them to take her away. “Wait!” Cassie turned to Sara. “Please tell me you still love me. Tell me I’m still your sister.” Sara looked up at her and all she could see was red. She reached up to cup Cassie’s face, then reached back and slapped her across her face. Cassie looked up with blood dripping from the corner of her mouth. “You will never be more than the b***h that killed my mate’s pack and little sister. You’re no better than the hunter that was hunting me when I found Shawn.” Sara spit at Cassie’s feet and stormed off. Shawn nodded for the men to take her away.
Once at the pack house Cassie was taken to the basement and was tied up with wolfsbane soaked ropes. As they worked on tying her up she could feel the ropes burning her skin. She winced as they tightened them on her wrists then moved to her ankles. She wished Sara would come check on her but she knew better. If Sara’s reaction was what she looked forward to when she told the pack she was screwed.
The men stood and turned to leave as the basement door opened. Shawn, Sara and Martha walked down the steps. Martha’s nose flared with rage. Shawn looked like he’d just finished crying but had an evil smile on his face. Sara couldn’t look her in the eye as tears ran down her face. Shawn walked towards the men. “Are the ropes tight enough?” he demanded. The men nod in unison. Cassie could hardly feel her fingers, so she’d say they were tight enough.
Shawn walked over and knelt in front of her. Cassie looked up into his eyes. The bright bluish grey eyes were gone. What saw now were straight black, cold, dead eyes. “Hope you have a good night’s rest tonight because in the morning you get to see what your fate is.” Cassie’s eyes darted to Sara. “Don’t you dare look at my mate!” Shawn yelled. “You’re the one putting her through pain right now. You lied to her all this time.” A sob broke the tension as Sara began to cry uncontrollably. Martha wrapped her arms around her as she walked her out of the basement.
Shawn leaned in so close that Cassie could smell his musky scent. He leaned in so close their lips almost touched. “I hope they exile you so you can be the thing that you’ve always hunted.” Shawn leans in closer and kisses her cheek. “Sweet dreams, bitch.” He spit on her before he turned to walk away. Cassie sat there in silence as she thought about tomorrow. A sob escaped her mouth as she thought of being exiled.
The sun shined through the small window in the wall. Cassie woke up to the sound of the basement door opening and someone walking down the stairs. Sara stepped into the light looking like she didn’t sleep last night. “It’s time, Cassie.” The men that tied her up last night walked in and grabbed her to stand her up. Sara turned around to walk up the stairs as they followed her.
Once out of the basement she saw the whole pack waiting for her. She was led outside to a tree and tied to it as the pack walked out to stand in front of her. Shawn walked through the pack holding Sara’s hand. “This is your chance to tell the pack what happened. Don’t leave anything out.” Cassie took a deep breath as she told her story to the pack. Some looked sympathetic and others furious like their Alpha. “So as you can see I didn’t know that they were not rogues. I was misled.”
Shawn turned his back to her to talk to the pack. “As you can see she murdered a whole pack of wolves, not rogues. She is no better than those that hunt us.” Shawn looked at her and asked, “What do you believe would be a good enough punishment for your actions?” Cassie looked him in the eyes. “I honestly believe that being shunned to the old cabin in the woods to be alone would be punishment enough. I don’t want to be exiled or killed. I believe I can still serve the pack well and I’m an asset you could use.”
Shawn nodded as he turned back to the pack. “So we decide. Do we send her to the cabin and still be one of us or should we exile her to make her a rogue?” Everyone started yelling at the same time but most seemed to agree with her being exiled. Cassie dropped her head and cried into her hands. As she’s crying she felt someone rub her hair. Cassie looked up into the eyes of her sister.
Sara stood and turned to the pack. “As your Luna I say we banish her to the cabin.” Shawn turned to look at her with confusion. “Sara? I thought we had decided last night.” Sara walked to him and kissed him. “Would you really take my little sister from me? I know she killed yours but exiling her would be like killing her to me. Would you wish your pain on me?” Shawn’s eyes darted to Cassie and they softened. “This is why you will make a great Luna.” Shawn smiled as he kissed her.
Shawn turned to his pack and took a deep breath. “Cassie will be banished to the cabin in the woods. She will remain a member of our pack, for now. She will lose her place at the office and will have to work hard to regain my trust.” Martha stepped forward and hugged Shawn. “You both will lead us into a new era.” Shawn puts his hand on her shoulder and says, “No,” he reaches for Sara. “she will. I was ready to exile her but Sara was right. I couldn’t put the pain I feel for my sister on anyone else.”
