Sara and Shawn walk, holding hands, downstairs. Martha and a few other wolves are waiting with smiles on their faces. They all nod as Shawn reaches them. They look at Sara waiting for her to do the same but Shawn stops her and says, “A Luna never bows to her Alpha.” Martha claps and cheers. “So does that mean my instincts were right?” Sara nods and hugs her. Martha hugs Shawn and says, “Sara and I thought her mate had died because she was the only one in the pack without a mate.” Shawn turns to look at her and smiles. “I’m here now. Now how about that run?”
Once outside they all run for the treeline. Once in the dark of the trees they change except Shawn. He hadn’t changed since that night. Sara’s wolf stops, turns and whines. “I’m scared to change. Last time I did everyone died.” Sara walks back and nudges his hand encouraging him to try. He nods and changes, joining everyone else.
Shawn howled as he followed his pack members and was amazed at how big his territory is. They start to circle back and race to see who could get there faster. Shawn felt Sara look at him before she took off. He laughed to himself and chased her. He always loved a good race.
Shawn could feel the others behind him as he gained on Sara. She whined as she realized Shawn was about to take the lead from her. Shawn zoomed past her and stopped at the treeline first. He howled in victory as the others joined him and Sara. Martha stepped behind a tree to change back then stepped out to talk to Shawn. He was already pulling his shirt down when she said, “If you’re not busy I really must take you in town to our office so you can meet everyone and let them know who you are.” Shawn nodded and turned to Sara. “Do you want to come with us? I want my mate everywhere I go.” Sara nodded as she followed him and Martha to the SUV.
As they drove in town Martha was on the phone with people at the office letting them know they were on their way. Shawn reached over and grabbed Sara’s hand. She turned and smiled at him but he could tell she was nervous. He didn’t know why but his guard went up expecting the worst. They pulled up in front of a building that a billionaire would’ve owned. He chuckled not realizing how much money and power he now had.
Once the vehicle stopped someone came and opened the door for him and Sara. Shawn stepped out and smiled at the young man holding the door open for him. Sara walked up to him and grabbed his hand. They followed Martha into the building. A beautiful blonde sitting behind a desk stood with a smile to greet them. “Welcome to the Lunar office. How may I help you today?” Martha walked around Shawn and smiled at the lady, who looked panicked. “I apologize ma’am. I didn’t see you.” as she ringed her hands she continued. “What can I do for you today?” Martha smiled and said, “I want to call a meeting to introduce our new Alpha, please.” The woman nodded and picked up a phone and called someone.
After about a minute or so, an older man walked towards them and motioned for them to follow him. As they walked into the elevator Shawn started to get nervous. Sara could tell and smiled at him. Once the elevator reached the fifth floor the doors opened to a business floor with hundreds of people looking at him. Martha walked out smiling and waving at everyone.
They walked towards a room with glass walls with a big redwood table in the center of the room. It was surrounded by twelve black leather chairs. As they entered the room Martha started telling everyone where to sit. Shawn was placed at the head of the table. Sara was to his left and Martha was to his right.
Once seated the door opened and in walked nine people in suits. They all looked at where Martha was sitting and looked confused. Shawn noticed a face that looked familiar to him. A beautiful woman with black hair in a red dress locked eyes with him and stopped smiling. Shawn finally remembered her and growled low in his throat.
Martha looked at him and asked, “What’s wrong?” He shook his head wanting to know who she was and why she was here. Martha nodded and stood. “Thank you all for coming. As you know my Alpha has been gone for some time. A new Alpha has come to help lead us.” Martha motioned for him to stand. The look the woman gave him was enough to make him smile. “This is my nephew, Shawn. He was the Alpha of the pack that was killed 6 months ago. As he is my blood and I have no children, he will be our new Alpha.”
Everyone stood and clapped for their new Alpha. The woman in the red dress stood slowly and clapped as well. Martha motioned for her to come forward. “This is my assistant.” she turned to the woman and continued. “Cassie, this will be your new Alpha. You’re now his assistant.” Shawn gave her an evil grin as he shook her hand. He squeezed so hard you could hear the bones crack in her hand but she still smiled politely. “Nice to meet you sir. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know.”
Shawn turned to the rest of the people in the room and took a breath. “It’s nice to meet you all and I look forward to getting to know you all. Thank you for making me feel so welcome.” Shawn reached back for Sara and pulled her forward. “This is my mate, Sara. Soon she will be your Luna and will be here with me a lot. Please make sure she always feels welcome here.” Everyone nodded and began to say hello to her.
“Sara would you mind talking to everyone and get a feel of how we can make this a smooth transition?” Sara nodded and began to talk to everyone. Shawn pulled Cassie and Martha to the side. “Now, Cassie, would like to tell my aunt how we know each other or should I?” Martha looked at her with confusion. Cassie took a deep breath and turned to Shawn with tears in her eyes. “I’m so sorry, Alpha. I had no idea who you really were.” Martha cleared her throat as Cassie looked at her. “The night his pack was killed I was there.” Martha gasped. “I was the one who led the attack.” Cassie dropped her head in shame. “Everyone but Sara needs to leave. Now!” Martha yelled. Shawn had never seen anyone move as fast as those people left.
Sara walked over confused. “Shawn what’s going on here?” Martha turned to her and said, “Your sister killed Shawn’s previous pack.” she turned to glare at Cassie. “My niece was so little. How could you?” Cassie looked up with a sob. “I’m so sorry for all of this. When I left to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I came across a group hunting rouges. I had helped with that before for us.” Martha nodded to confirm it. “So when we found Shawn and his pack I was told they were rogues.” She put her face in her hands and cried.
Martha was still mad but understood the confusion. “Cassie, I’m glad you came back but that was my family. I can’t just let this go but as I am no longer in charge here, it’s up to our new Alpha what happens to you.” Martha turned and walked out crying quietly. Shawn turned to Sara. “This is your sister?” Sara nodded too much in shock to speak. “Cassie, I will take in consideration that my mate is your sister, and show you leaneance.”
Cassie looked up shocked. “Thank you Alpha.” Shawn put a hand up to quiet her. “You will publicly announce your part in the murder of my pervious pack and my little sister.” he smiled. “We will let the pack decide what should be your ultimate punishment. If I had my way,” Shawn paused. “you’d be killed like you killed them.”
