Chapter 5“Welcome home!” We entered through the kitchen. Eli had mentioned carrying me over the threshold. Seeing as I was three-quarters-of-a-foot taller and outweighed him by more than I cared to admit, that idea was swiftly nixed.
“Hi, Luddy.” The dog’s tail wagged happily, and he licked me everywhere he could find bare skin once I removed my quilted flannel jacket. “I missed you.”
“I decorated,” Eli signed. “Jetlag. Couldn’t sleep, so…”
He’d also obviously shopped. Ludwig sported a big red jingle bell on his collar.
“Jingle, jingle.” I tickled Eli’s ribs and wondered if the cats had also been adorned.
There was more Christmas around than what I’d had in storage, more lights, little plastic clingy snowflakes on every window, a rug in the shape of Santa’s sleigh in front of the sink
